Do you lads use a thermostat in your welders?I had a fellow tell me as long as you have good antifreeze in her dont worry about a thermostat.what are your views on this??? Felon Attached ImagesCaution lurker lives here" hmmm That is serious, pass the ganja and pick up a 24 of MGD"
Reply:That looks like my old machine that I lost in hurricane Goerge. Does it have a 4 cyl continental with a Magneto? It took a hurricane to finish it otherwise they run forever.

Reply:The only parts that I still have are the Magneto and the cabruretor still can't figure out why I keep this stuff, have about 20 pairs of tongs 6 anvils, mandrel, swage block , just memories of my blacksmithing days .I see you have a Lincoln Dialarc 250 ,if that is a red machine with a round top and when you turn the wheel to the right the heat goes down . ,I have three of them ,they never quit 100% duty cycle I believe.
Reply:Hey wait a minute... Now that Gremlin mentioned it, the welder looks familiar to me too.It doesn't have "Red Seal" cast in the manifold does it?Never mind, I found it. But about the 'stat. If possible, an engine should be run at a stable temperature in the normal operating range; that's the temperature the thermostat tries to maintain.Running too cool causes rapid wear, poor combustion, and contaminant accumulation in the crankcase.Good Luck

Reply:The thermostat keeps the engine running at the optimum temp. Definitely not a good idea to go without one. The correct temp aids in good ring seal, cylinder surface's, efficient combustion, fuel usage, etc. The antifreeze also acts as a lubricant for the water pump
