I'm building three of these too be inserted into a friends interior two story foyer. I believe they are coming out nice, but if not please tell me how I can do better. I'm new to welding and any help is greatly apriciated!!
Reply:Nice design. I'm assuming its just tacked up...right? How are you planning to weld up? Tig, mig, stick etc?POVERTY...is the Mother of InventionMillermatic 211Millermatic 140Miller Thunderbolt XLArcOne 100STS inverter w/TIGThermal Dynamics 38XL Victor Oxy/AcetyleneJancy Slugger Holemaker IIJet 5x6 BandsawNever enough time & sleep.
Reply:They look nice the only thing I see is that the horizontal pickets will make a nice ladder for some one to climb on.Mike
Reply:For now I'm only doing mig, I need to buy/learn tig and very soon too! Haha yes it would make for a nice latter, lucky my customers are older and don't have kids, I did make sure to keep all spacing 4" to keep it in code.
Reply:I thought it was code to not have horizontal bars? Only vertical so they can't be climbed? Or is that only the case if there is a certain drop-off distance on the outside of the fence?Precision TIG 225MillerMatic 250Powermax 35XPPowermax 65TM 4X4 w/ water tableLagun FTV1Monarch 10EEJD2 M3 with hydro conversion
Reply:Don't know if it helps but our pool enclosure code here bars horizontal bars on fences and gates but property gates like driveway and such don't have those restrictions. And we're in California with some pretty severe codes.
Reply:the ladder effect was dropped a couple of years ago. it may appear on some of the older codes, but i dont think any that are in use.   i think canada may still prohibit horizontal rungs, but im not sure about that.  pool enclosures are a different animal and i dont know them offhand.the ladder effect was always pretty much a non issue, there was one vocal proponent of it, a retired civil engineer, when he died the issue was pretty much dropped from code councils.
Reply:Also, code is less than 4". The test is one of those 4" Styrofoam spheres on a stick. 4" can't go through. This goes for balusters on stairways as well. My Dad and I got in an argument over this. He was building some outdoor balconies and stairways and was going to use similar measurements. It got soo bad that we finally went down to the city office. They had a nice pamphlet all put together for just this problem. I won the argument (not that it matters). For your spacing think 4" ON CENTER. Nice design, though. Hope it works...Just my .02"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." - Thomas Jefferson If the Lights are a Flashin', STAY OFF the tracks!!! It might be me at the Throttle...
Reply:I hope to see a picture of this installed when your done with the project. Its coming out pretty sweeeeet!
