Is there a rule of thumb when determining where to place the hinges on a driveway gate? I recently built a 6' by 12' gate and need to add the heavy duty adjustable hinges to it. I would appreciate your input? I will add pictures to the project section once the hinges are attached.
Reply:I usually go 4" from the top and 4" from the bottom.
Reply:closest to the ends is best, it will cut down on the leveraged pressure on the hinges..from the weight of the gate..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:Structurally, top and bottom, as noted by RKB, above.
Reply:X3 on what RKB noted above, plus increase's adjustability of those adjustable hinges.
Reply:Near top and bottom, but specifically very close or opposite the horizontal member of the gate.
Reply:Thanks, I will follow your guidelines. I should have pictures up in the projects section soon. Thanks again.
Reply:Maybe a ramp at the bottom of the free end at the closure point to take the load off the hinges when. Closed, if possible, would be a good idea.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk |
