Was drilling out some studs yesterday on an aluminum head and did a rookie mistake and drilled too far. My question is what is a good filler rod to use to fill the nice round hole ?Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWill Supports Autism Awareness My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .
Reply:5356. What size machine you gona use? Pre heat would be a good idea.
Reply:How bad is the damage? Will using an extra heli-coil cover the additional depth? Or did you penetrate an oil, water or fuel/air passage?Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:you might be better off taping and putting a plug in the bottom and then the stud on top of that , then risk welding and causing more problems..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:That's not many amps. You will have to pre heat to 225-250 for sure
Reply:Its in a non critical spot it was the top exhaust stud. The only concern i have is oil leaking from it. I maybe able to get by with some high temp silicone on the studSent from my LGLK430 using TapatalkWill Supports Autism Awareness My ToysBobCat 225 PLusMillermatic 130Miller Spectrum 300 CutmateEverlast Power Tig 185 Micro April is Autism Month .

Reply:Use a short setscrew with thread sealer in the tapped hole.

Reply:That's probably a better idea. Silicone loose in an oil passage can create as much havoc as a loose weld spatter.
Reply:Put in a blind casesaver. If you can't find one use a regular casesaver insert with high temp retaining compound on both the insert and stud. That is what I have done many times. Good luck and let us know your outcome.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea. |
