Please Help - Sick Syncrowave 300

Good news is, I got a new and bigger shop. Bad news is, my old sync 300 fell off the lift gate when moving. It fell onto it's back when the lift gate was about 1 foot off the ground. The case is slightly bent, but the real problems must be inside. Symptoms:1. No high frequency when set to start, it does come on when set to continuous. 2. No welding current, I tried to scratch start, no dice.3. Fan runs fine, gas solenoid works fine.I could have the new plug wired wrong, but I doubt it. I bypassed the power switch to make sure it was working right, no luck. I think the first time I powered it on there was a arc some where inside, and I smelled the ozone. The welder had not had all the dust blown out in a long time before this happened, I fear that grinding dust may have gotten into something it should not have and created a short.Please help.Last edited by fortyonethirty; 01-05-2012 at 02:02 AM.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:Well, thanks for all the help...    Anyway, I got it fixed and thought I should share my solution for anyone who might have a similar experience.I took most of the outside case off, looking for any damage, and straightened it out while it was off, I also blew out many parts that I could not reach through the end panel that was the normal access. Then I decided it dig into the little box when the main circuit board is located, and I found the problem there. On the smaller of the two boards there was a capacitor that had broken out of it's solder joint, the joint had not flowed completly around one of the leads and must have broken in the fall. Fortunatly only one of the two leads came off so it was easy to ID where it belonged. I soldered it back in, reassembled the case, and viola, it runs great. Also, there was a date printed on the board: 1978. Here's to 33 more years!Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
