I'm thinking of getting a welder capable of mig, stick and tig. Anyone have any preferences or advice? I have searched, but not much information came up. I'm thinking about buying this if money allows: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/2735327704.htmlIs that a good price or should I keep looking? Also, if I go to check it out what are common problems I should look for? Thanks in advance!Millermatic250Miller Spoolmate 200Miller Spoolmatic 1Lincoln tombstone with century DC converter1945 K.O. Reply:Yep.  Check it out and weld with it in all processes if possible.  If it works well buy it and the feeder.  I love the XMT stuff.  I have an XMT350 and it is one of my favorite machines. Reply:I use an XMT 304 as a MIG and stick power source (I don't TIG) and it does great with those two.  You should be able to find one in the $1000-$1200 category if you look a little harder.  Make sure it's CC/CV and not just CC only.Search the Baltimore area CL - there's a guy on there who's had several XMT 350's with LN-25 feeders for $1600 for the package - that's a much better deal.  I talked to him in mid-December and he still had two sets left.  I decided it wasn't worth the expense to upgrade from my 304, so I let it pass.Don't buy any welder unless you weld with it first.  I know of what I speak!
Reply:Are you serious?  That is way cheaper than out here.  If you run across that guy with the 350's and LN-25's, let me know.  I'd like to call him. Reply:Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm thinking offer him a grand cash and see what he says. I'm definitely going to weld with it. I'll let him show me how it tigs and get a lesson while I’m there. Anything I should look for on the inside to make sure it is all working properly or if something is going to wear out? I doubt it, but figured I'd ask.I searched the Baltimore CL. Tons of welders. I bet any port city will be crawling with them as much welding is done in shipyards. By the time I drive there and back; it is easier to get the one here if it works well.Millermatic250Miller Spoolmate 200Miller Spoolmatic 1Lincoln tombstone with century DC converter1945 K.O.
