Hello friends,I've been reading a lot about Tig, watching some videos regarding tig welding techniques, and I am now looking to purchase a machine for me. (I already do stick welding)I searched a lot on the web and I found some Chinese machines, just like the one attached to this message. Well, the thing is, I trully believe in those sayings like "buy cheap, buy twice" and "you get what you paid for"... But being an airmodel constructor for many years, I know that there are some quality products coming from China too.I have a budget limitation, so unfortunately models like Miller Dynasty is out of the question. It's a pity. I am considering maybe, if I realize that the chinese won't have a minimum quality, the Everlast 250 EX Tig could be a solution. My need is at least these: AC/DC, HF, Post Flow adjustable, Foot Pedal. I will have to get one with a good amperage too, since I will be doing some welding for experimental aircraft, having to weld some thick materials sometimes. Please, if you know anything about those machines, leave a comment here...Thank you very much.Ps. a good warranty time, and valid within USA or Brazil (where I live) would be good to have too. Reply:Hey marcio,My TIG unit looks to be quite similar. Mine is a Riland, now defunct as they are no longer in business. I've had mine for over 5yrs now & works superbly with no issues.....probably one made on a Tue, Wed, or Thur.. There are many Chinese TIG units for sale & many have had no issues, many have had a multitude of issues, & many simply don't like any of the chi-com units. You take a chance.....YOUR decision. I don't recommend anything unless I have one & have used it without issue. I guess I was lucky when I got mine. If it died today, I'd have no complaints as it has paid itself off a hundred times over. I'm sure you will get many suggestions from the members & you need to sort thru what you need, what your budget allows, what features are a necessity, & what power level is a minimum. Do your homework......Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I suggest asking in the everlast forum as u can get feedbacck from people who actually own and use them not just the typical smart *** chicom hater coments here,   have u considered a used tig machine from on of the premium brand names.   I have seen lots of positive feedback on the Everlast 250ex fro folks who actually bought one.   The is also a digital panel version called. Reply:Hey Brucer,Are you going to fly his aircraft?  The OP did not designate any kind of timespan as to his being completely competent to do the TIG welding. It appears he is simply seeking info. on TIG units that would meet his requirements for TIG welds. You can "build" anything you please...... after that, what difference does it make what he does with it? I don't know the flight laws in Brazil, although having a PPL here in the US, I know that even experimental aircraft here have to pass an inspection before they are considered air worthy. If no such laws exist in Brazil, then the OP can choose to take his life into his own hands & live or die with the end result....... quite simple.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:first i own an everlast 250 ex, works just fine.  just ran 50 pounds of 7018 through it,  not a hiccup.second, where does it say he is building an experimental aircraft?  what i see is the phrase airmodel constructor.  i cannot extrapolate that to mean he is building experimental aircraft.mea culpa, mea culpa,  i just saw the remark about welding on experimental aircraft.   well, i guess he'd better buy a miller if he wants those planes to fly right. lolLast edited by fdcmiami; 12-30-2011 at 09:28 PM.

Reply:marcio,  my everlast 250 ex welds aluminum, stainless and steel just as good as my miller 350LX  that i currently own and the SD200 dynasty i recently sold.   as a stick welder it works just fine.   of course it does not have the power of the LX but then again it weighs about five hundred pounds less.
Reply:marcio,  i have had no problems with the unit so far;  i have only owned it for two months.  i received it, plugged it in and have not had any issues to date.   i have noticed on the everlast board that many of the complaints about the units are from owners/hobbyists that have never really learned to weld.   you will see some very strange complaints posted there.   i should note you will see them here as well.for the money, i would recommend them.  in fact i'm going to buy another, a stick welder only model, to throw on my work truck.
Reply:Hey marcio,Yes, I am a professional(48yrs welding) & retired now, although still operate my own welding/machine/fab shop. I weld steel, SS, aluminum, copper, brass, & occasionally bronze, & I make a lot of custom auto accessories & crafts with alum., SS, & steel. I also do quite a bit of repair with TIG depending on application & customers' request. When I bought my unit, I took a chance with the import unit not knowing if it had the quality & ruggedness for usage several times a week. Back when I got it, the importer was a great fellow to deal with, pre-tested every unit prior to shipment, & guaranteed it for 1 year. When he passed away, the company/importer went to hell as far as their reliability & warranty & finally went out of business. I guess I was lucky to get a good one. There are many horror stories here & other forums regarding the imports, & there are also success stories with complete satisfaction. It's your $$$$$$....you gotta do your homework & whatever choice, live with the results. I can't speak about any other units that I have never used as that is pure heresay & meaningless. You will have to get on the Everlast Forum & post your question & what information you seek.Hey fdc: You are forgiven.......DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Hey guys,Probably gonna be a bit long..... deal with it.Well, it seems that off-tangent remarks are always injected into a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with an OP. And then when challenged, a responder feels they are being "picked" on. The issue is the relevance of the response which is attempting to do a comparison that is completely out of context to the OP & the subject matter.First, if you take the time to "READ" & "ABSORB" what the OP wrote, the first (2) paragraphs certainly indicated the OP was "DOING HIS HOMEWORK"........... you know, those famous words I use quite a bit. He came here to query certain equipment that would meet his needs & did, with clarity, give a good portrait of his education level & experiences. He, in no way, indicated he was going to buy a TIG welder & start to weld together an airframe as soon as he purchased one. DID HE??????? I didn't read it anywhere in the posting.  BANG!!!!!! You make PRESUMPTIONS.......  WHOA!!! ... All of a sudden we get responses as to his not having any experience with the process he chose, & if he was presenting a danger to the public. Then we have to hear that we castigate those who who come here to build a trailer in the same context as what the OP in this thread has written & accuse the forum members who challenge a newbie trailer-builder that there is a "double standard". REALLY???!!!!!   Geezus Krist,  how in the he11 can there be the slightest comparison of a frikkin' newbie with a 90A flux-core welder wanting to build a trailer to put on the road & the OP who had an engineering degree, is an aircraft pilot, already has some experience with welding(SMAW) so he does understand metal fusion/bonding, is 25 yrs old, & speaks (3) languages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  WTF is so hard to understand that there IS NO COMPARISON!!!!!!!!Second, there is some kind of innuendo projected that you "give people mod powers and the rules change." The forum rules apply to the mods the same as everyone else. If anyone has an issue with a mod, it is quite simple to file your complaint with Frank C., the Administrator, & register your complaint. None of you know & realize the work the mods do to keep the forum cleaned up from all the spam, garbage, irrelevant postings, & attempt to bring a semblance of order so the site can continue to provide valuable information to EVERY MEMBER. If you have sensitive feelings, need complete PC, & get upset by a bit of criticism, it is quite easy to simply "wander off" back into the wilderness. Reply:Hey marcio,You have nothing to feel bad about, nor do you have to apologize for anything. Your posting & responses were quite clear. The problem lies with those who seem to "read things" into a post or response & then "presume", in their small minds, that was what the poster wrote which is generally way off base. There are those who will ALWAYS interpret in a different manner than the intent of the OP. Human nature. I am one who stresses that providing clear, concise information in a detailed manner will result in a much better understanding for the responders to give sound advice. I'm not fond of having to prod & insist for more details & data so as to have a clear understanding of a query. No one can provide solutions with a great deal of unanswered specifications regarding an issue.Hey marcio.......there are many here who would argue with you that I have "no patience"......again, another baseless presumption. We do have the gamut here of the sublime to the ridiculous...... it goes with the territory as with any forum.BTW..... I'm into RC aircraft very heavy & my hangar grows monthly. I don't know if you will get the answers you need here though.  Denny gave you his personal experience with his Chinese made machine, happened to be a good one. I think you will do the appropriate research before purchase. There are some warranted fears with the Chinese machines and as you stated the shipping will be substantial. Please keep us posted on your progress.Tim.Tim Beeker.
