How many of ya repair them yourself?
Reply:All depends on if its new or used on whether I'll try to repair it. New ones will normally still have a factory warranty and the most that I'll take it apart is to change out the brushes if they wear out. Used ones, no questions about it. Reply:I used to rebuild them for a company I worked for, if you get into the internals I just used parts grinders, It was more cost effective to to buy new than buy new armatures.Leo
Reply:I usually fix ours and order everything fro ereplacementparts.com. We only had one armature fail on us in the last 15 years. We use makita grinders, the armature for the 4 1/2" is not that expensive ($20).
Reply:I fix my own. "Downgraded" from the high-amp newer (6054 and similar) 4.5" Milwaukees to the older 5.5A ones (the original 6140's - not the new ones), and now I don't have to deal with burnt-up armatures anymore. They were cost-prohibitive to replace.
Reply:I try to repair them all, but some 4.5" are so cheap it is not worth the time, what is worth it is when you buy them new make sure their is enough lube in the gearbox and add some.
Reply:What type of grease should you use in them? Plain old Chevron red EP grease? Or something with moly in it? |
