what seems to be the malfunction with these new 200d's..talked to Tom Fowler about mine and he's rewinding 2 to 4 a week and some with under 200 hours? Should'nt Lincoln do a recall if theres that big of a problem? anyone else having problems?
Reply:I talked to a rig welder about his fairly new 200 D.  He said shortly after he bought it,one day it started to throw sparks out the armature.  I thought this was kind of odd being it was brand new machine.  I can't remember what he said was the problem but his advice to me was "the older the better."  Meaning the older the Lincoln the better they are.
Reply:I have talked to a few and so far lincoln hasnt recalled yet but there is a large prob with the circut boards and armatures , my rep @ lincoln mentioned they are a re dressed 200 vantage
Reply:apparently the bearing in the spider rack is seizing up and letting the armature drift to the right..noticed on my sons that the brushes on the right are already half gone at under 700 hours. so we're checking his today. Mine has been a problem since it was new, never seen a machine more inconsistant and put more pinholes in a weld. Finally just took it off at 1027 hours and put the redface back on..to check them take the right hand exciter brush out while running and see if the arc follows it..older sons checking mine back home today as well..

Reply:thanks for the input, Billswelding repair in OKC, OK. is where the info came from,,call Carol from AIRGAS in Poteau, Ok, and check on the progress of the machine..son called 2 days ago and said ,,quote "this is a "pinholeing son of a gun" and Yes, we're using Lincoln rod. Already been told from Lincoln to take it in..but as you stated about breaking it in ,,they said at Airgas it had no affect because I ask about no hours on the machine and load banking it. Did'nt need it,,,So as your reply it did.
Reply:seized bearing sounded kinda funny to me too. sons welds great and so does another here at work, curious to see what they say on mine when it goes in.

Reply:I have a friend that has one and he said it welds just as good or better than his redface and classic 1 and gets way better fuel consumption. The only thing was it had a brush installed backwards from the factory but other than that all is good and he is making money with his.

Reply:its burnt several hundred pounds of 3/16 th , would it be advisable to load bank it now..at 1027 hours? Jeremy's machine with 700 hours is a lot quieter than mine and runs smoother, no rattles(welds good too)

Reply:later on, was on a 4" line when the 59 went down, (x-ray looked me up later that day and wanted to know what was going on..LMAO) it was around 400 hours before I got to crank it up.. I took it to the service tech. in Batesville Ar.at day 5 and he said it was fine and there was no reason to load bank it..any recommendations?

Reply:I will agree with cruizer on this one. I was having big problems with my 02 Powerstroke such as failing injectors, failing pumps, etc. this winter when I was getting supplied fuel.I had my truck in 3 times to fix these things and then a 4th time to fix 2 injectors that were only a month old.I was at the point when I was going to get rid of the truck at whatever loss and go buy a gas job,I had enough with diesel. But the 4th time I had it in, a friend of mine who is a diesel performance guy told me to try the ATF trick. I tried it and it worked wonders, I still use the truck everyday and no problems since(the truck is just shy of 400 000KM) and I think I got a few extra MPG out of it. All these problems were caused by excessive idling as the truck was sitting idling for ten hours a day and not moving, just like a welder not loading up for a long time. It also says in the manual that prolonged idling  will result in wetstacking or glazed cylinders, you guys just have to read the manuals.
Reply:at day 5, the service tech. said there was no reason to loadbank, that load banking had nothing to do with the welders weld characteristics..talked to several friends yesterday and 2 said to hang with it, that theirs did'nt start welding good untill after 2000 hours? one hated his and traded it straight across for a redface, most others were pleased..so whats the atf trick? Cruiz, you work at Lincoln? I spent a week up there with all the welding instructors from Oklahoma
Reply:atf, gotcha..too early to start thinking

Reply:both my 48 and my brothers 52 have starters..someone listed a starter on ebay this morning for a f162. Says its for a fork lift but its identical to the one on my machine..I have every original part for my 48. Got it running but the vavle train is gone..smokes beyond belief..brother stole a sweet shortie out from under me..thought he was buying for me..LOL..original owner and barn kept. still has the doors and all..runs and welds like a dream..man said he did'nt want to sell it. and brother kept after him. Said he'd sell it but was'nt going to loose money on it..Said he paid 1250.00 for it new and that was what it would take to get it..Wayne has a short hood he was going to sell I'll see what it is..I think its older than a 48

Reply:brother had a 55 I think years back that was hand crank..same way cranked first time, fine tuned machines will do that..got to thinking on the starter on the 48. It has a homemage 1/2" spacer on it and the longer, narrower starter like what posted on ebay for a fork lift..I'll call brother today and see how his is set up..thanks for the trans fluid idea. He said its settleing down some..still pinholes..LMAO..now that its off my truck, when his new machine gets here. I can get my hands on it without needing it everyday, betcha I figure it out..we've been basically 7 days a week for 13 months now,,starting to like rainy days, still hate porta johns when the heat index is over 104 thoughwhat kind of hours were they running this machine to only burn a gal of fuel ? and and what is this janmar engine ,dont know a whole lot about welders but have welded with them for 20 years have a 97 sae 350 with the 3 cylinder duetzlove the way it welds a very consitant machine while and have finaly gotten a 74 sa200 . curious does anyone  got a web address for tom fowler I have heard about him and his work would like to get in touch with him just bought a 74 redface and want to trick it out a little, you can send me e-mails to me @ [email protected] edited by pipeliner_67; 03-08-2009 at 12:47 AM.

Reply:Friend of mine bought 200D in jan09, was shorting out remote, tried different remote same thing, decided to take machine to repair center, had direct short in windings or armature. Said he wanted another one, it took 2 months for this to happen, the good thing he had another spare machine 300d during all of this. about 2 weeks ago another buddy of ours calls and says his new 200d burnt up his grinders and his remote. Sounds like the same problem. So I call a friend of mine thats working in the bay area and mentioned to him what was going on and suprisingly had another story. He was welding in the rack and his partner says his remote went out, so takes machine to repair center they tell him hes looking at 6weeks for an answer. These are just 3 cases from friends of mine, I cant imagine how many others are out there. From a rigwelder in Southeastern Calif, Imperial Valley.
Reply:A little heads up on burning ATF in you diesel. Back in the old days it was ok now day they have all kinds of metal in atf thats right metal, a friend of mine works at preformance diesel shop and they had a truck come in that had melted the pistons and turbo right out, once it got hot it kept burning and had build up on top of what was left of pistons. This guy ran waste atf out of quick lube at a rate of 2 gal. oil to 28 gal diesel so it dont take much. Now to back up what I say you can go to [email protected] amd read tons of stuff on diesel eng.The thing to run is two stroke oil it is made to burn with no deposit, I run it in my truck at 1oz to gal.Every tank, it keeps the injection pump happy. When they went from 550 to 15 ppb you got to think ok something is missing here,Yea it's called lubristy. And if you think you need adative in the winter stop and ask your self have you ever seen a snowmobile gel up at -40 below. I picked up 3/10s to a mile when I switched 2 years ago. So it pays for it self just takes a minute of your time to fuel up. But DONT put it in 2008 and newer trucks it will stop up the muffler filter1990 SA 200Miller 225  Rip Miller302Miller 135Lincoln 200 MigHypertherm 600 PlasmaPlasma Cam Cutting TableMikita Cold SawJL Welding Tx . com

Reply:just for an update, it now has a new spider bracket, and bearing (second one), new exciter armature, and in the shop again ( 3rd time) at kubota repair for 3 weeks now and they think its the fly wheel..when kubota finally sends one they'll install and see if thats the problem..machine vibrates so hard the exciter armature hits and it can't be welded with..barely 1700 hrs. now..on the good side had my 59 rebuilt and not missing work anymore after more than 9 grand in lost wages..it'll be fixed now with or without attourney fees
