My shop door faces the east and partially on purpose blocks most of the wind around here (it can get really windy here). But on still days with the sun shining in the door in the morning it can be a killer with the heat from the sun moist warm air from the swamp coolers in back and no real breeze. I finally had enough and decided my shop build isn't going to happen fast enough to cure it. So I built this. I used as much used and whatever I had on hand to make it without spending a fortune. I finally got the arms worked out last night. I've been using it for the last couple of weeks with temporary arms made from EMT but knew they where strong enough. When the second one folded in a wind storm Fri night it was time. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out a good arm arrangement and never was happy with any of them. This is the best that I came up with without being way too complicated. Let down as low as it will go with full arm extension. I had to make the chain pulley from a old V-belt pulley. These show it cranked up higher to allow for taller things in the shop.Last edited by irish fixit; 09-07-2014 at 12:23 PM.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Here I've folded the arms down. It could be used like this to help block wind. Here it's rolled up. Notice that the tarp isn't cut square or the same length on each side. I need to address this probably by taking it down and wrapping more of that side onto the pipe.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
