What's the best  tungsten for welding 1/8 inch steel  1/16 or 3/32
Reply:I prefer 3/32, but if you have 1/16, that will work.Lincoln Idealarc Tig 300/300, Lincoln ranger 8, Lincoln LN-25, Miller Sidekick (keeps rockin!), Oxy/Acy torch, Miller XMT-304 with a Miller 60 series wire feeder and high freq. box, Profax positioner 8" chuck, Aaronson 3500# positioner 15" chuck
Reply:I read that 1/16th tungsten is only good up to about 100 amps. I prefer to go to 125 amps or higher for 1/8th. I think you would be better served by 3/32. Thoriated or lanthanated. sharpened to a point with a small landMiller Multimatic 255
Reply:Sharpen a 1/8" tungsten to a point and you can weld just fine down to 30amps.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:Are you prepping the metal for full penetration? Bevel you metal, 1/16 should be fine.
Reply:Either  size will work. 1/16 will be more of a focused arc at 90 amps then 3/32 will but is less forgiving to work with. If you take the time and chuck up the tungsten in a drill and it will give you the best results. I usually grind mine at 2x the tungsten diameter
Reply:I use 3/32 thoriated for almost all my DC tig welding.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
