I've just about seen it all lol

Reply:If it doesn't hurt bad enough to make me stop I finish the rod. If the pain's too great I do a little fast dance to, hopefully, make it move to spot less painful, then finish the rod. Only pain that made me about p!$$ my pants was when a gobber burned thru my tee shirt, rolled down my belly and stopped right in the bottom of my bellybutton.                                       MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:I perhaps don't fully ignore it. You think it will grow colder and more bearable but it just hurts more. You can usually use your free hand or body shift to help deal with it. If I can't stop the burn of course I am going to stop.

Reply:Eeesh... had to think about this. I'd probably do what I've been doing- pause, shed a few tears while figuring out if I really needed to stop, then finish. If it was really bad, which has only happened to me twice so far, I'd honestly quit to dig it out of my flesh. I've started wearing heavier jeans and an over sized leather apron when I have to weld from odd positions or underneath and I add long arm and chest leathers if I'm stick welding.... just not interested in ending up at a wound clinic.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:It's nerves communicating minor pain to the brain. These messages must be processed to suffer. The brain can dismiss the milder ones. Learn that they are mild, reject them. Get the job done. I hear whining about rifle recoil. It isn't the recoil that is a problem. By the time we feel the recoil the bullet has hit its target. It is the anticipation of recoil that ruins your aim. The same is true of welding sparks. With protective gear, it's mostly anticipation that's the problemAn optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:I'm not a good enough welder to risk putting myself in a position where gravity can take molten metal straight down onto me. Prevention is better than swearing when it goes to %@£$?¤#. Overhead would be getting in over my head.
Reply:if hot slag is burning me i have to decide in a split second whether it's worth stopping to regroup or simply tough it out and lick my wounds afterwards. if i had to crawl into a tight place i'll probably keep welding and have another scar to add to my collection.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:I was a teenager, my snowmobile trailer coupler was sloppy on the ball. I built up the bottom of the cup to get more around the ball. It was too tight. standing under it I heated to drip excess weld. Though I believed I was not beneath it, I must have been. A big glob dripped under my watch and stayed there. Yanking the watch off, flesh came with it the shape of the watch. I could see white bone, no blood. It soon became painless, but took forever to heal. Many years it was tender, I'd knock it open now and then. Don't do that!An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared.
