gun smoke extractor

Anyone use one of those smoke extractors, that are incorporated on the gun when welding MIG?I saw that you have to be careful in corners, not to suck all shield gas,but it looks a lot more convenient than to move around a smoke extractorAnyone tried it home made?Thanks Richard
Reply:Homemade as in a shop vac duct taped to the gooseneck on a mig gun?  .  Interesting. Worth a try in my shop. Lol
Reply:Oh forgot to mention, I haven't tried ours but Tweco makes one called the Smoke Master. Hoping I can try one in Denton TX soon.

Reply:We use a miller one at work for dealing with flux core stainless i cant stand the stupid thing you have to dial the suck down some so it doesnt take your shielding gas away. Most of all the thing is stupid heavy like watercooled gun status.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Reply:OK,... i thought it would be a little better than an arm you have to position,...yes i tried a shop vac attached to the goose neck,it works, but it's very cumbersome.the extra 1 1/2 inch pipe on top of the gun was ok for fumes, but often in the way.
Reply:probably on a fixed welding machine , like in a factory setting it would work great, but for a hand held mig, it would get in the way other than flat welding..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:Yeah everytime you want to roll a machine around you pretty much have to unhook the whip which is a pain. For fumes us welders much prefer the miller papr system with the flip up lense part for grinding or just a plain ol resperatorSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
