I've been wanting to build a smoker for a while and was looking at some videos on youtube and ran across these from, "Mr TIG".I should be better and not throw stones and I wouldn't if he wasn't making these videos as "instructional".If he was just building a smoker and wanted to show it off then right on but he's trying to "teach" people.... all while shilling crappy products.I can't believe the techniques, comments, and lack of quality that I saw in these videos. Absolutely no prep on hot rolled steel for TIG welding, poor fit-up, poor weld sequencing, welding with a dirty tungsten (as a result of not cleaning off the mill scale), claiming that you can't MIG weld 16ga steel and that "TIG MUST be used, improper nomenclature, etc.. This guy is a joke for such a self-proclaimed, "TIG expert".There are 4 videos for the whole build.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:I was going to start a thread about mr tig to ask if this guy was really a world renown expert.I'm a complete newbie to tig and TO ME his welding looks far from expert. Particularly when you watch welding-tv guy's stuff. But I didn't want to say anything... lol
Reply:He would also have twice the work space on his welding table if he would take those POS welders off of it instead of trying to "place" them for advertisement. If you are going to call yourself an expert at something than you damn well better be the best at it. It's funny, almost every single person that calls themselves an "expert" is usually far from it. Jody Collier is 100 times the weldor of this guy. Knowledgeable, skilled, and mostly humble. Jody does push some product but I don't particularly mind as the knowledge he shares is invaluable. I keep waiting for Ron Popeil to show up and tell us how we can cook a turkey inside the welder while we're working. "Set it and forget it!" http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:I'm just a hobbiest tig welder, but if this guy is "MR.TIG"then why in that clip of the 2nd vid at 6:30 minutes in back ground does he have a can of lincoln electric stick electrodes? Last edited by Basicwelder54; 07-02-2014 at 04:29 PM.
Reply:Thanks guys - I've been a long time subscriber to his channel and so far it's been the best I've found. Do we have any other, lesser known channels? Some that I've enjoyed are "Keith Fenner," "mrpete222," and "myfordboy." They don't specialize in welding but include some. I'd really like to find a channel that is TIG heavy.I know this is about the welding, but I like my wooden smoker better. Retains heat better. cost me all of $25. It is definitely a bit of redneck engineering, but it works quite well. Powered by a Chicom hotplate ;-)Miller Multimatic 255

Then there are others (Mr. TIG at the top of this list) that never admit anything wrong with their techniques, teaching methods and such and that's why they have little to no respect by others. It's like if the cocky and arrogant guy is going to make his TIG videos and not admit when he's doing it right, then "we" the viewers will do it for him. ...and that's never going to go over too well.

Reply:How can you call that a smoker if you can't create wood-fire smoke?? LOLSteaming up water doesn't qualify as smoke.Smoking requires actually burning this stuff:
Reply:Originally Posted by Louie1961Oh Oscar, ye of little faith! Everyone who knows BBQ knows that the optimal temp for pork is about 225-235 Fahrenheit. That is well below the combustion temp for wood (as in the wood frame of my smoker). So the smoker won't burn. That being said, that hotplate gets plenty hot to burn the hickory chunks I place in the cast iron skillet that goes on top of the hotplate. Water doesn't go into this smoker. I got this design idea from none other than Alton Brown, and it rocks. It makes beautiful, smoked over actual burning wood, barbeque.
Reply:I just watched Mr. Tig how to weld corner joints and we need to invite him to Weldingweb to start a thread called "Tig like Stick." Or maybe "how I made an in position tig weld with prepared metal look like a farm weld by a kid who just learned how to use an AC buzz box." This guy is terribly irresponsible and at least he's making smokers and other crap, rather than trying to show people how to weld aircraft fuselage tubing or roll bars. I bet he is really good at grinding tungsten though, 'Mr.Sparky' is an apt name for him.You can tell he's not a real welder because his workspace is too clean.
