so i have been having trouble with my automatic in my crewcab long bed diesel pickup. i picked up a parts truck that got up close and personal with a moose at 75mph. the parts truck is also a crewcab, but it has a manual, turbo, and cruise control all of which i always wished mine had. soo, i am going to make the two into one, and i have decided to take the two crewcabs and make one triple cab pickup. i am thinking of shortening the bed to account  for the longer cab without having to modify the frame. anyone done anything like this before?Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:There's a guy on one of the powerstroke forums who did it himself. I can't remember which forum, dieselstop or maybe powerstroke nation. He showed pictures. It is red and seems like it was about 2 months ago he posted it. He said the hardest part was the roof, I think he said one roof has ribs for strength and the other trucks roof was smooth so he had to blend them somehow. It actually looks pretty nice, I just can't find the post nowIs yours a Ford?Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.

Reply:both of mine have rippled roofs. i am thinking of cutting the rear cab in the middle of the front door, and the front cab in the middle of the rear door. the bed will end up something like a sporttrac's bed, stopping right in front of the wheel well. i like that fellows superduty,Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:There used to be a 6 door chevy long box up here that I would see once in a while. Pretty much looked like a suburban with an 8ft truck box on it. Never quite figured out how he managed to park it in town though
Reply:Turk I am glad to see that the yards in Chugiak still look the same as when I worked out there.  is that Birchwood Loop by chance?
Reply:Get yourself over to ford-trucks.com.  The IDI guys over there would love this project and would like to see the turbo install.  The amount of knowledge about these trucks over there is amazing.

Reply:jinx, i am actually planning on taking the spare side tank from the stripped truck and add it under the truck, then replace the rear tank with a larger capacity tank, then situate all three filler necks in one enlarged fuel door behind the rear axle. total fuel capacity should be between 80 and 100 gallons under the truck.here is the cab trimmed up.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:This is fascinating.Turk, how do you decide where you want to cut the cabs?  How did you measure to ensure you matched the cut on the second cab - ensuring the 2nd (or middle) pair of door openings are square and sized to accept the CC doors?Subscribing to this thread..."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:akpolaris- i don't know where the peters gate subdivision is.as far as cut placement, 35 5/16 inches needs to be added to accommodate the extra door. the floor had a set of lines that match up well 25 inches from the rear of the cab, and 35 5/16 inches in front of that have the same profile. as far as the roof, i think i went 32 inches and 35 5/16 inches in front.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:so when i went back to the shop this morning, the seam was terribly warped. i must have welded too fast. so i took a slice of the roof from one of the other cab parts and welded it across the seam.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:thor- that is the plan, they will probably have to go on at opposite directions though.the body lift to mqke the cab fit the frame without modification is pretty screwy. as you can see 4" at the back of the cab, it sits on the original rubber bumpers in the middle, 2"at the front of the cab, and 1" at the grill.I sure am stoked to get it on the road.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools

Reply:ok, now I'm confused. How is it that you're lifting 1" at the grill, 2" at the front, and 4" at the back but the middle is still on the stock mounts, and it's level in comparison to the frame? Progression would indicate that the middle should be at 3" and the cab would be pointed down on the frame. I'm sure that the combination of the cab mounts, frame height changes, etc all contribute to this, but it still sounds wonky. What are you using for the lift? the picture kinda looks like a 4x4 post, but I'm certain that can't be it.There are no problems. Reply:4x4 square tube, the variation is because of variances in the level of the cab floor, and the frame height.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:I thought about the Redneck Limo name about the same time Groo posted it, but was on the road and couldn't post it. I did however think about, in staying with the Redneck Limo theme would be to install the center seat facing to the rear seat like other stretch limo seat arrangements. This would allow for a removable table of some sort between them. The back seat riders could eat, play cards or something on the trip. It would definately increase legroom for them. If the seats could be made to fold down it may also serve as a sleeping area if needed.
Reply:nice job, looks great !
Reply:This might be a bit more involved than you would want to build but I had a flash of an idea about getting the snowmobiles onto the back of the truck.  When I used to install dbs systems the van I used had a dual ladder rack on it and the passenger side had a swing out and down assembly that used a lever and minor shock set up for raising and lowering ladders up to 40ft collapsed size.   If you built a split bed with drop down sides that would slide out and drop down on the side of the truck that would raise and lower by a hydraulic ram for each side that would let you carry the snomows and other heavy freight more easily.  I bet you could probably modify a couple of box truck life gates to mount on the frame on each side to act as bed sides.  Put a single plate for the bed and add on metal casters into the bed to move freight left or right to the modified lift gates which you could put rollers into as well  and put bump stops at the end so that freight wont fly off.Welding Supervisor Department of Corrections.
Reply:that would be pretty intensive Big65, I had thought about making the flatbed a hydraulic sled bed like thisjust thought a tiltbed would be more stable.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
