Hey y'all, first post here. I'm about to start a project where I'll be welding on relatively large antenna (10'-15' dia). I wont have access to my foot pedal and therefore am looking into using a start/stop switch. This raises a few questions for me; A) Is my Syncrowave 350 (80's model, dont have it yet, ser#JJ415287) programmable for upslope and downslope? 2) Should I consider a switch/dial set-up to adjust my heat on the fly? C) Any suggestions on brand/model of switch?Cost is prohibitive as we are just getting started, I appreciate any feedback.Re-posted from introduction where I erroneously posted the first time.
Reply:There's no slope settings or adjustments for the base model machine. I believe a sequencer was offered as a factory installed option on the S'Wave 351, but I'm going to say most likely not for the 350. At least not that I know of, and even if it was available, the chances of finding a machine with it is pretty slim. It's not a drop in option either on the 351, it was an entire head that sat on top of the welder. You're best off buying a hand control that will allow you to adjust the amperage at the torch. CK makes some very nice remotes. They're not cheap, but they're worth the money.IMHO of courseExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Just pick up the pedal and take it with you, after a little practice it will work just fine between your knees.Mike
Reply:I also would agree on the ck controls being real nice
Reply:Used this CK "track" remote on an aluminum boat tower and what a lifesaver. It gives you up/down slope and on/off features. Never want to use my east/west rotary control again.Sent from my SM-G920P using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Thanks for the info folks. I'm going to look into the CK products.
Reply:Mike, Like I mentioned I don't have a ton of cash to play with so this may be my only option at first. Thank you for reminding me of this technique, as I have seen it done before. The only thing is, I don't know how efficient its going to be as the antenna's (antennae?lol) are a grid pattern of tubing and flat stock captivated by channel with hundreds of 1-2 inch stitches.I'm having fond memories of Suzanne Somers in her leotard, bangin' out reps on the thigh master though! LOL!Sean
Reply:Is this Aluminum or steel? you could just turn the output on and control to panel and scratch start the welds if it is steel. Just have to remember that the torch is always hot.Mike
Reply:Another good suggestion but alas, its aluminum. I actually received the welder and it has a start switch hooked up. Guess I got lucky. I'd still like to try welding with the amperage control in my hand someday (just seems like fun) but for now I'm out of a bind. Thanks again for the feedback!
