I have a really old hobart welder beta 250 that is about 25 years old I have had it for about 10 years and before that it was in a semi repair shop since new. But it finally crapped out on me and really thinking time to step up and buy new. I am pretty sure about 1k is about all I want to spend. I am thinking the millermatic 211 and can add spool gun once I come up with another 200 to weld alum. Then I realized I can buy the hobart handler 210 for about the same price with spool gun. Which would you buy, why and have you used either? I will weld sheet metal to 1/4 and 3/8 very very rare.
Reply:Miller and Hobarts are almost the same machine when comparing like models. The difference is that miller generally has better parts like the feed roller assembly being metal rather than aluminum and the controls being infinite rather that tapped. I've used Hobarts and they are fine machines, but I always side with the Miller when I'm paying for it.My name's not Jim....

Reply:Those beta migs are great welders, won't you be dropping in performance if you get the 211? Is there any way you can spring for a Hobart ironman?Farmer2Hobart Champion EliteMiller S-32p 12Lincoln sp175tLincoln 225 ac tombstoneHarris oxy/aceteleneMakita grinders/chopsawHypertherm Powermax 45 |
