Sorry to disappoint really not much welding here I was just happy how it came out. Kind of my first sculpture I suppose?3/16 base. Used 3/8" rod welded to the base. I cut the rings in the rod on my mini lathe and drilled/tapped the ends to accept the screw holding the flowers on. Flowers are made of thin gauge copper sheet that I cut and bent into 4 stacks to form each flower. Finally sandblasted everything lightly to give it a frosted texture and clear coated the steel portion. She added the bow to hide the weld. (Not my finish work, hard to get in there with the mig. Tig definitely would be better.Last edited by BrooklynBravest; 09-16-2014 at 05:56 PM.

Reply:Really nice, BB! How long does something like that take to complete?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:It actually wasn't too bad.The longest part was cutting the ridges on the "stem" portion which didn't have to be done I just thought it looked bland and boring. The longest part was cutting the copper sheet into 16, 3" squares and then physically sitting there with tin snips and a wood chisel to make all the lines in the pedals. That was brutal. There has to be a few hundred lines per flower. Actually forming the flower is surprisingly easy.Overall id say a 5-6 hour on/off project.Excuse my workspace, I redid the floor in my garage during the build.Attachment 845881Attachment 845891Attachment 845871Attachment 845901Last edited by BrooklynBravest; 09-16-2014 at 06:50 PM.
Reply:One in awhile I will give my wife a gift, but it is usually in the form of cleaning up some cat crap or barf off the rug.  My cats, her rug, but it's partnership."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Did she like it? Her telling you that does not really make it so. I just don't see a woman liking it. I see a woman liking a half wilted dandelion you laid on her desk more. Are they supposed to be roses? The pedals don't look bad but something seems off about them. That could just be me though. Hate the stems and the arrangement. Its a bit overworked. If they are roses I would like to see one single flower tighter bloomed and just laying flat on the table.

Reply:Lol the copper was longest.Actually, that was the original plan. I was going to actually have the stems twist around eachother and whatnot but what happened was the ridges I cut in the metal I guess disturbed it too much to be bent and it snapped on of the stems. Mind you I should have heated it in the forge and then attempted it but I was too short on time to set that whole deal up with my garage in shambles. If I did it again, I would tig weld it for sure for aesthetics and use the forge to make nice curves like you stated. I just had too much going on at the moment to go that far.
Reply:That's where an O/A torch comes in handy. No set up time in most cases. Just turn on the cylinder valves and light it up.
Reply:I think that if you drilled holes for the stems in the base and welded from underneath it would have looked cleaner ,or added some washed river stones in a cluster around the stems .gxbxc
