Would a large air dryer off a industrial size air compressor work? It's a cabinet about 24"x24"x18"deep, with copper cored radiators 3 deep (stacked face to face). It has a fan and shroud on the other side, approximately 14" in diameter. I'm not sure if the fluid capacity of the radiator would be enough by its self? But in my mind, add a pump and power switch and it's good to go. The reason I ask, the water plant I'm currently upgrading, just replaced their compressor set up and it's just sitting there. It probably can be had for free or cheap. Input or ideas appreciated.Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:Voor starting point, Cooler and fan. Now a tank, circulation pump and plumbing and maybe some fancy stuff like quick action joints and temp gauges.
Reply:How much fluid capacity is usually needed ?
Reply:Depends on whether you will run a heat exchanger or not and what amps/how long you will weld for.  Miller sells their watercooled Dynasty DX with a Coolmate 1, so 1 gallon of coolant works with a fan and radiator.  Mine never got hot when I had it, and that was with hobby welding of aluminum for hours at some times. Using no fan, your TA 211 and using the radiators with all their fins as your tank, I betcha 2-3 gallons would be fine with no fan.   Convection alone will give you some cooling.
Reply:Ok thanks for the input. Now I need to talk the plant manager out of his trash.
Reply:What I liked about my design is that if any part fails, it would be quite easy to replace that part. Easy to get to, easy to get in and out.  I have a 3.5 gallon tank and I give it a test drive at 280 amps on 3/8 aluminum for about an hour. It went from about 85f (room temp [too dang hot]) to about 175F with no fan. I turned the fan on and welded for another half an hour and the temp raised another 6 degrees. I now need a new set of gloves. Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
