Figured I'd start one thread for all my future (if I remember to take a pic) projects instead of multiples over time.Today.Guy wants to rally the car, said he is coming back for a cage sometime and other work along the way. Took out the stock mounts and out in lower and further back mounts today.
Reply:Nice job!! It sure is not easy welding in some of the positions a chassis builder has to. Do you build chassis or mod-update?
Reply:very nice job
Reply:Thanks!Power: I have only built one chassis ever. Most of the stuff I do is modding existing shells. Most of these guys aren't pro and are normally just building a car on the side to race weekends at tracks within a state away.I actually used to turn guys away that asked for cages because I only had the TIG. I would do a few now and then when business was slow but hated every minute of it. Now with the MIG it is night and day difference in how easy it is to get in corners, under dashes, anywhere. With the TIG there were many times I would have to control the foot peddle with an elbow or knee because I was laying on my back in a trunk or something. That and everything has to be spotless with a TIG.
Reply:Some things.Light bar for a subi.Aluminum exhaust for an evolution 3.5"Windshield washer reservoir. And  a jag head.
Reply:Been doing some fun cuts lately. Wanted to share this one.
Reply:I used to love doing cage work. Different strokes I guess. If you can't weld left handed or out of position, you will learn it fast! Being 6'4", I came up with some pretty creative ways to lay/sit and still operate the pedal. Very nice work on the mounts!
Reply:Finished up a new exhaust and trans cross member the other day.Picked up the next project today.
Reply:Where does the engine go in that Jag? Doesn't look like there is much room for a v12 in there.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:You get all the fun jobs......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Jag E type? Nice. Should have a nice payday when finished.

Reply:That E-Type is a series 1. Why did you reduce the cooling ports in the head? Those cars had some really nasty cooling issues. The series II (1967-ish) went to a larger mouth in bonnet and MUCH better cooling fans to get rid of the heat the XK engines put out.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:Interesting mix of period correct and updated. Original useless fuel filter, new individual air cleaners and where's the ignition wiring loom?Am I being too much of a Jag snob? Reply:The air cleaners were on the car when the owner bought it. He might get the original box and plumbing later on. Yup original fuel filter and all new line all the way to the tank. The original wiring and harness is there.
Reply:Sorry, that was a bad picture.New stainless bumpers, over riders, and tail lights.PORed tank with new lines, screen, and whatnot. The trunk is dirty.
Reply:The work done so far is georgeous!Just to keep being picky (as if a 100 point car is possible): There was a factory rubber loom that routed the ignition (secondary) wires in a tight bundle up and over the right cam cover and under the lifting arches. Each wire exited the loom near it's spark plug. They are a royal pain in the a-zz! Especially when you have more than 1 ignition wire off. They usually disappeared after the first tune up.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:Originally Posted by markfugaThat should be a quick job. Typically the only thing that needs replacing is the collection of parts found between the engine fan and flywheel
Reply:The saying "all tune-ups start with the removal of the engine" seems appropriate here Or, in this case it appears it starts with the removal of the cab...I do not envy you on this job.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:I looked around all day and couldn't find any room to put a parts table for the motor.
Reply:I found room! Just have to finish this project up first...My welds next to "the other guys" welds.
Reply:Cut stuff on the cnc table. Attached Images

Reply:Forgot I had this thread.  Found it while searching for some pics.I have done so much since the last post here. I have to post a couple pics of some stuff.1938 waterwitch complete resto-mod?And it runs(ish)!Had a GT-R here for some exhaust work.GT-r and jagMade up some stainless yak racks for the excursion.A bunch of other things in between. And now working on a 71 firebird.
Reply:I really like the idea of using oval tubing. Is that readily available?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:The other stuff is great. I'm most impressed with the E Type. I had a matching numbers 1968 as a teenager, I paid $1600. I won't say what I sold it for. Mine, a 4.2 was insane in its performance! Mine was a two top roadster, it was tired enough to need restoration. My baptism of fire was replacement of clutch and pressure plate/throwout bearing. That project without special equipment was rough! At age 20 the cost of a restoration seemed overwhelming. I was short sighted. An incredible car.
Reply:the finished cold and hot side of the firebird.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
