Hello everyone, This is my first post and I was wondering if anyone has built a plasma cutter? I have seen several plans on the web and just wondered if it's worth the effort.
Reply:It depends on what your goal is. If you like doing those kinds of projects, go ahead. If you are trying to save some money, it is not worth it. I see older Hypertherms like the 350, 600, and 900 on Craigslist for $400-$800 every once and awhile, and they just work so well I just don't think you can get the same performance out of something you build yourself. There are millions of dollars worth of R&D put into the design by Hypertherm, and their cutters are optimized to do the best job they can. I have been using an older Hypertherm 350 for a long time now, and it cuts anything I throw at it.1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan |
