I'm wanting to weld on a aluminum intake manifold with my mig pac 10, I realize that it is too thick of material for penetration but I am looking for build up only. I see lincoln has the k664-2 aluminum conversion kit available- am I going to be wasting my money on this? It looks like the success rate with this welder and aluminum kit has been 50/50- some people have made it work, others say it's a painful, futile experience. What should I expect- remember I'm only looking for buildup.Thanks.
Reply:I have done a bit of heat lamp (500 watt lamp) or propane preheat , if its a smaller job .
Reply:I would say that it is a larger job. I would be building up 4 areas 3"x3" and .25" thick.I thought about heating it while welding but it would be hard to control the heat and not get burnt in the process of welding. |
