Instructions on my new cutmaster 42 say to use a none metal straight edge.  I clalled Victor and ask tech what I should use for a none metal straight edge that wouldn't catch fire and they had nothing for me.  Now Im asking you guys the ones that really use this stuff.  Also is it really necessary  the use a none metal edge?  I was using an alum speed square today and it worked, but I could fell the tip sticking to it, I assumed from arcing.  I was cutting rusty angle. Thanks for the help Phil
Reply:Non-metal straight edge would include plywood as a guide.  Many forks use plywood.  If the edge burns/chars a bit, it isn't a fire.Jerry30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press
Reply:Masonite works pretty well and it's cheap.
Reply:Sheet gasket material works pretty well.  Can also be cut into shapes to make a po'boy cnc.
Reply:If you can find a shielded tip, I believe they will not stick to a metal straightedge.
Reply:I use Plywood, 1x1 or 2x4 board etc....   If it burns, blow it out or pat it out with a gloved hand.  If it's bad, get a new one.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
