Hello everyone, my name is Francisco. Just found this website and it makes me very happy...lolol Not much to say other then I am a novice welder that started out on whatever was laying around in the garage.I recently bought a older model Lincoln 225 (stick weld only). It was dirty and hadn't been used in years. When I opened it up, I noticed a wire that wasn't connected to anything. I am not sure if it came loose when I took out a bolt, or if it came loose somehow and that is why guy thought it was broken. It is one of the three wires that comes out the back. Two of the wires connected to the on/off switch (btw, which is + and which is - ?). The loose wire might be the ground plug wire but I am not sure. If it were, I do not know where to connect it. Can anyone help? I need to put a new 220v plug on the other end but that easy, I've done that before. Any and all help would be appreciated...tHX!Last edited by FranciscoJ; 09-06-2009 at 03:48 PM.
Reply:If it's one of the 3 wires for the power cord, it's either the ground, which goes to the chassis, or one of the two hots, which go to the switch. For 220v service, green = ground. Black red and white are hot.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:It doesn't go to the switch. Do I just bolt the ground to the chassis? How do I connect the hot wires to the plug?

Reply:On the plug, the 2 hots go to the side blades and the ground goes to the center pin. Test your outlet with a volt meter to double check how the outlet is wired. Hot to ground = 120 volts. Hot to hot = 240 volts.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Here is the wire I am talking about. It would be one of the three that would go into the main plug. I am thinking it would actually be the ground wire. It is as thick as the two hot wires. Here you can see the two wires that go to the on/off switch.
Reply:If you look around, you should find a threaded stud on the chassis that's missing the nut, or has a nut that's loose and not holding anything, somewhere around that corner of the machine, within reach of that wire.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
