I have not posted in forever but this little aluminum repair made me think I should post it. This is a bike trailer it came from the manufacturer with a defect the owner called and asked for a replacement. The replacement was sent based on disabling the old unit and sending a picture to prove it. The frame had to be cut in two places to prove it was now disabled I got a hold of this unit in hopes of repairing it. It is a frame made of approximately 16 gauge aluminum square tube. Irie welded to cut out to us with my Miller 165 diversion I use 116th inch aluminum filler and ran it at 65 amps with argon running at 20. I was able to weld all four sides of each tube and and I was pretty pleased with the result. Aluminum is tricky to weld as you know but I found it to be pretty easy I think the weld is reasonable what are you guys think? Reply:Nice!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Are they towing little sissy in the trailer or grocery's ? Wouldn't want the little kiddies to go careening out into traffic and becoming a hood ornament now would we? Oh but it does look like a nice repair . Don't you just hate companies that want to see the broken part before they will send a replacement .gxbxcLast edited by gxbxc; 10-11-2014 at 08:17 PM.

Reply:looks great. don't let alumn. and all they hype dismay you. alumn. is easy. it does exactly what you tell it to by your inputs. repairs do suck though. Reply:I've been going through old 4' long drawers from my van. I've had them a very long time, they are badly cracked. Grunge is worn into them pretty bad. I used to have a Dialarc which is 50/50 balance, sine wave current. In my experience the old Dialarc needed aluminum to be absolutely clean. I now have a Dynasty. It is amazing how dirty aluminum can be and still weld well. I still clean as best I can. In those dirty old drawer units it can't all be cleaned.
