WANTED: HTP Invertig 201 AC/DC TIG welder

Reply:Just a thought to consider.  I have been talking to HTP about getting a welder for a small shop at work.  We have pretty much decided on the HTP Invertig201 as I have been pleased with mine and the guys at work like it too.I recently learned that HTP is releasing a new version of their Invertig.  It will be called the Invertig221 ($2599) and will have 220 amps vs 200 amps.  The newer model will weigh approximately 8lbs less and have some other changes as well.  They are also offering an Invertig221DV, which will be a dual voltage model ($2999).Ok, sorry for the long story.  All of this is to say that they will be putting these on the market in the next couple of months.  Perhaps you would be able to get a better deal on a new Invertig201 if they are looking to reduce their current stock in preparation for releasing the new model.

Reply:Let's set the record straight....The 221 is currently priced at $2395 - the same price as the 201, until about the middle of July.  Currently, for the same money, you get a machine with 10% more power, and the ability to independently adjust the AC amperage - so you can adjust your electrode negative independently of the electrode positive.  You will only find this feature on the Dynasty 350 and 700.  If you look at the cost per amp of a Dynasty 350, the machine is about $5600 for just the power source, divide that by 350, and you are paying $16 per welding amp.  The 221 works out to $10.88/amp  - and that price includes the torch, pedal, gas hose, flowmeter, and ground cable.The 221 weighs 40 lbs compared to 68 lbs for the Invertig 201 – and the weights are for the power source only - so that is 28 lbs less.The DC pulse goes up to 999 PPS, and you have the ability to store 64 welding programs.  And I think the front panel is more user friendly.The Invertig 201 is a great welder, and the 221 will continue the tradition!Last edited by Jeff N; 06-23-2011 at 12:19 AM.Jeff NolandDrive a LincolnDrink a MillerWeld with an HTP
