Hello;Plan on using the Weldanpower to stick weld 12 gauge for a mower deck project. Was thinking of 3/32" rod, so what setting on polarity and amps? The machine goes down to 30 Amps. And...any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Reply:CEP is correct. If you are welding on a mower deck that has been pressed into shape then use 3/32 7018. The working of the material to get it to it's shape tends to make it act like cold rolled. It will usually crack right around the weld if you don't use  the 7018. Or at least all the ones I have done act that way.
Reply:If you have a clean surface, why wouldn't you choose 7018 for a piece that's going to be work-hardened?Hell, even without the work-hardening I tend to gravitate towards 7018 just because it plays nicer for me and leaves a nicer finish.Put the wire in the fire!Lincoln AC225 | Lincoln ProMIG 140 | AHP AlphaTIG 200x | AHP AlphaCUT 60 | Millermatic 251
Reply:Pardon my ignorance, but I don't know where the "work hardening" of a mower deck comes from.  Am I missing something here?  It's a mower deck.  I'm thinking thin sheet metal, from what I'm getting  from the OP.  I second CEP's suggestion of 6013 with DC-   The amperage, well you'll just have to play around with that to find what's best.  Every machine is slightly different.  When welding thin sheet metal, I also prefer the yet smaller electrode than 3/32".  I prefer 5/64 6013's  by Lincoln.  You migh have to buy them online as I never find them anywhere in stock.   The Forney 5/64" 6013's I think really suck, followed by Hobart 5/64 6013's sucking just a little bit less.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:You can even get 1/16 inch 6013, harbor freight even stocks it.  Sent from mobile.  Not responsible for TyposTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I am surprised you guys care for the smaller stuff. I would use 1/8" of whatever I dug up first.
Reply:I'm surprised unless it was an aluminum deck broke by a rock or something you'd even worry about it and just go get a newer used mower or just the deck itself....
