I have a shot at a SA 200 but aren't sure about it never had one before. Its numbers are SA200-F-163 Code 7307 Ser # A 7289?? Had some rust around serial #It started easy but the idle up control part didn't work Had torn rubber bellows around it.I guess on that setting the motor would rev to the correct rpm for welding. It would not strike an arc on the 1/8 6011 rod until the adjustment switch was set to 190 amps and revved up by hand.It seemed to run a soft arc then but I didn't get the chance to do much with it.Much of the visible wiring was dried out and brittle. The asking price is $2000 on a trailer,$1700 off it.Its my brother in laws and I would have to run back 400 miles to get it.Any advice or comments would be really welcome.Thank you.
Reply:What do you plan to use it for?Their just a big stick welder fuel hog.And yes, CEP, we know they can run a suitcase feeder, every bigger stick welder can.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:Not for two grand. Not 400 miles away one way. Not with brittle, weathered wiring and other obvious problems. And definitely Not when you have to screw with it to get it to light up.Leave it there. Later machines are a dime a dozen and with oil hitting the skids, I imagine a lot of ppl will be looking to unload spare iron before too long.$2K in most cases should get you a clean, later model machine in good running condition. I've seen pre '70 red face machines with round barrels sell for that price in good shape, running and welding well, ROW ready.Let it be someone else's problem. If you want a machine to restore, there are far better candidates out there, earlier model copper wound machines with lots of promise for a quarter of their asking price.IMHO of courseLast edited by 7A749; 12-28-2015 at 04:42 PM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
