I can only list 5 choices, so I intentionally left out Harbor Freight, Radnor,  Sunlu, China Atlantic and other crappy Chinese made crap.Last edited by ANVIL; 11-26-2013 at 07:08 PM. Reply:I use almost all Lincoln rods but if I could afford it I would use all UTP rods.
Reply:The last few years I've zeroed in on ESAB's rod. My Everlast PA-200 really likes ESAB's 10P-Plus 6010, where my V350-Pro likes the 10-P 6010. Both machines really like the Acclaim 7018.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Lincoln is by far my favorite. Hobart is my fallback (can easily get Hobart, Lincoln has to be ordered...Lowes does carry Lincoln 6011, 6013, and 7018AC but I prefer 6010 5P+ and 7018 Excalibur instead). I've got a can of Hobart and a can of Lincoln in the truck right now...Hobart Stickmate LX235AC/160DCRanger 305GVictor 315 O/A rigHope to acquire in the next couple of years: Hypertherm PM45 and Dynasty 200DX

Reply:Lincoln and Forney are my favorites so for me its which is cheaper and can I get what I need when I need it. I recently purchased 5 pounds of Forney 6011 and 7018 and It laid some really nice beads and I haven't  stick welded in awhile so Forney won some points with me plus as a weekend welder my local Ace is open.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:My favorite is McKay, but I also like Atom Arc, Lincoln and Hobart.CEP, what is your review of the Acclaim 7018? I have three or four sample packs in the oven but I haven't tried them yet."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Most jobs I've been on, I was supplied with Air Liquide Blueshield 7018. It is a nice rod and priced well. I also like Lincoln Excaliber 7018 and Esab ok55 7018.  Those are my top 3 as far as 7018 goes. For 6010, I only use Lincoln 5p+JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:Originally Posted by M J DI wouldn't say Excalibers suck but 2 times the price of Esab or Mckay sure sucks.
Reply:Originally Posted by ANVILYeah but pricing in this case doesn't have anything to do with performance.Eutectic hasent been mentioned years ago I ran some 7018 alot like excalibur, all of their speciality rods have worked very, very well for me . Otherwise I prefer lincoln.
Reply:Update:  recently ran some "gifted" ESAB 1/8" Atomic Arcs.  Smooth arc, but sans self-peel slag feature a la Lincoln Excalibur 7018s.  Need more stick time with the ESABs......"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:Originally Posted by Stick-manIt's all in your location. Around here, Excalibur and ESAB are popular and cheap. Mckay would cost me an arm and a leg. unless I want to drive an hour.I've never talked to anyone that didn't like Atom Arc. Just sayin…...
Reply:I didn't like the old Atom Arcs very much, they were hard to restrike and seemed to run better on some machines than others. The new Atom Arc Acclaims are nice, though. They run a bit differently than Excaliburs but I like them just as well.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Lincoln 6010 5p+ and excalibur 7018 are great.  Airliquide 7018 are top notch too, and in Canada are the standard 7018 for pipeline and boiler work.  Tried Hobart 7018 once, I thought they were inferior.Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface
Reply:Ran some Washington 7018 wire recently.  To rate it, I need to know what number is the lowest possible.
Reply:I will weld with about anything but I really like the 7018 excalibers. I picked up some store brand rods the other day because they were out of excalibers. They were blue flux coated 80TAC's, $2 per lb. They are AC/DC, and very deep penetrating. Welds great vertically or any other position. Almost like 6010 with a smoother weld and the flux just falls right off. I was impressed and at $2 per lb, plan on getting more. I don't know who really makes them (messer?) but the flux does not fall apart when you bend them. Try some if you see them...
Reply:The three kinds of 7018 I buy, Esab Atom arc, Excalibur, and Jet Lh-78....All about the same, price and quality wise....Gonna have to try some others tho....XX10, only Lincoln!!!
Reply:Lincoln 7018, 6011 because that's all I've really used. I've got some Hobart 7018 but haven't tried them yet.Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:I've been playing with some Hot Max 7018 off of Amazon and they run nice. Got 10lb of 3/32 for $23 and just ordered 10lb of 1/8 for $19. The 3/32 rods are only 12" in length, not sure of the length on the 1/8. But 12" suits me just fine. I'm like 7A749 just weld on junk metal. My go to rod is 7014 & 6011. Been using 7014 Hobart from Tractor Supply, Got the 6011 Lincoln from Lowes.________________________________Everlast PA140STEverlast PowerPlasma 50And no you can't Borrow them
