Picked up a barely used Hossfeld model 2 with a ton of dies from a gentlemen in Virginia.  He told me he experimented with the scroll attachment and that was about it.  Considering it came with two crates worth of dies (I haven't cataloged them) I think I got a greate deal (except It took 8 hrs to pick it up - buy hey my time is free right?)1) Adding hydraulics.  I need to bend some 2" outside diameter tubing.  I know Hossfeld makes a 6" CLR die and a 9".  I think I want the 6.  Do I absolutely want hydraulics or just add arm length as needed?2) If I need to add Hydraulics, my budget doesn't really allow $2000 or so for the Hossfeld kit.  I've seen a couple others make add-on kits.  Is there a place where I can learn how to size hydraulics?  How much horsepower electric motor vs. pumps size vs. cylinder size etc.  I'd like to pick pieces from place like Ebay but a 2000lbs slave looks pretty much like a 100lbs.   How do I become savvy in hydraulics?3) Organization of dies.  The reason the guy sold me the bender was a) it was in the way and b) the setup time - finding the right dies etc., what pins to put in what holes etc. took too long for what he needed the machine for.  Anyone have a neat solution for this.  I was thinking - cleanup the dies (layer of dust), use white paint to enhance the markings, then make essentially a couple of 'peg boards' to organize them.  I have a couple of aluminum plates that are already mounted on frames.   Thoughts?Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:Cross forum posting, but here is a descriptive thread from Dave Merdian on a hyd. pump set-up he built.http://www.hobartwelders.com/weldtal...1-Pump-pictureShould give you enough information. As for the rest of the hydraulic set-up, if you copy the Hossfeld mechanism its an easy build. I believe somebody even posted a crude set of plans I sent out over on the Shop Floor Talk forum if you want to hunt for it.As for the white paint on the markings...pretty useless. Grab a copy of the owner's manual from LoBuck Tools, sort the dies to their purpose and have at it. The manual seems to never use Hossfeld's own marking designations in the instruction for use, just pictures. Reply:as far as ram size, you'll want about a 10ton cylinder...  The hydraulic unit for my pro-tools bender uses a 10 ton 14"stroke cylinder.. go to the different bender manufacturers and see what size pumps and cylinders they sell in their kits..If you know anyone that has built a log splitter, become friends with them and pick their brain.. if you have a good air compressor you could use an air over hydraulic cylinder from a cherry picker but it would be slow and noisy, but would beat pulling on that handle...tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Might look at this for a cylinder...http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.as...name=hydraulicLighter than most clevis end/farm duty cylinders and will cause you less drag. Wish they had that model in stock when I built mine.I don't remember what the max. pressure is on Hossfeld's cylinder, but it is in the 1400-1800 psi range.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
