AC output problem w/Weldanpower 225

Currently have a Weldanpower unit  Code 9108  MDL AD-225/DC-210/6   attempting to use as generator and can only get 90 volts of output, at first glance the only thing I have noted is that the brushes appear to be very worn.  Can the worn brushes  be a factor?Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Reply:Are the slip rings what the brushes contact with?  I did notice that they are not uniform in color. Some brass/copper showing, other areas are grayish.  Can they be cleaned?  Also do you know where I can purchase new brushes?Thanks for the help.

Reply:Nothing special and pretty straight forward.  You may or may not find it easier to remove the entire brush holder assembly and it can be done either way.  Just check for a good fit to the slip rings and contour the brushes to the rings by wrapping your sand paper (sanding side out) around the slip rings under the installed brushes and rotate in the proper direction of rotation.  This only needs to be done if the replacement brushes aren't properly contoured to begin with.FYI, This is what dirty slip rings look like.If the brushes are stuck in the holders (due to rust as these were) you'll need to pull the entire assembly out to remove them up and clean out the rust.  Yours should look similar and I use a nut on each of the anchor bolts to keep the assembly together while working on it.All cleaned / freed up and reinstalled.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
