.......Jones' Yost post........not post vise........anyhow.....I broke my 4" Craftsman and replaced it with Mike's 6" Record. Old but beefy. Annoying thing was the 4-5 handle spins it to get it to move when changing directions. Flipped it over to find the spring the screw rod went through was mashed and doing nothing. So I took it all apart and tried in vain to reform the spring managing to only break it. Thinking I was now fooked, I remembered some lifter springs I salvaged from a junkyard. One happened to fit, all be it a bit tight in the I.D. and needing a little shortening. Got it back together and works like a hot damn now. Instant movement and a nice firm feel to the spin. Just thought I'd mention it if anyone has a vise that is driving them nuts and can find a spring. 200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Excellent work! I have a sbc spring in one of my vises, works lots better than the original.
