SA 200 Mag Problem

This is the second mag I have had put on, the man installing them has been working on Lincolns for a lot of years, so I think he knows what he is doing. The original mag didnt have any problem, he had one on hand and I traded for the reman.mag, sence then we put another one on and it has about 15 hr. on it. Had been welding for about 5 min.eng was at high idle then it just started cutting out real bad. Cleaned carb. and put new plugs and still runs like it is running on two cylinders. Pulled cap off and there is some slack there, I would say maybe 1/8 inch both ways when you wiggle rotor back and fourth. Anybody have any thoughts on this. Reply:After 5 minutes, could the choke not be opening all the way? also inner coil on mag can be bad, when they heat up they begin to break down. Mine will quit after 40 or so minutes and then will not start or make any spark until it cools down. Reply:UpdateBoth gears in mag broke, the little gear was in three pieces. The big gear had three teeth missing. Reply:Fatigue maybe? Had one throw an impulse arm (what ever that does) one time. Went in the timing gears. Broke teeth off the gears, snapped the end off the camshaft, and bent some valves. The engine was using a little oil so I did a complete overhaul while it was tore down. It was just one of those things. I have never heard of that happening to another one.
Reply:I have been reading up on the electronic mags. and I sure wish I went that route instead of a rebuilt mag. I have right at 550.00 in a rebuilt mag with no warranty so far. Could have bought electronic mag for 490.00 and 30 month warranty.
