I am in the market for a mig welder that is spool gun ready. Was seriously thinking of the Hobart 190, but a local guy has a Longevity 200 for sale 3 months old, with cart. He was asking $750, but has dropped the price to $590. What say you? I was also thinking of the Lincoln 180C, which is what I'd really like. Appreciate any input.Jim

Reply:Two members here had Longevity Stickweld 250. Both progressively lost power. Member Pine had his replaced, and the replacement 250 did the very same thing.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Depends on your budget and what you plan to do with it. I know somebody that has Longevity mig, he says its works well for what he does. I like Hobart stuff, and always recommend them. I think you will be happier in the long run spending a little more for a Hobart.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
Reply:Thanks guys. That's the way my gut told me to go, too. I wasn't even considering Longevity until that local one showed up. I'll keep looking. Appreciate the advice.Jim

Reply:The 180c is a very good mig welder for it's size.Thermal Arc 210 - Tweco 211I - Cutmaster 52
Reply:I have a Longevity mig200, a Hobart Betamig 251, and a 200 amp miltiprocess machine from Northern tool. (I previously owned a Lincoln 180C, and a Lincoln WeldPak 155.Of the three I have now, I first got the Northern Industrial 200 amp with spool gun. It runs great, nice smooth, consistent arc with flux core from 14ga to max, and though the duty cycle is greater than the Lincolns, I would still run up against it on some long welds.I got the Longevity because of the longer duty cycle, and I have never hit the duty cycle on that one. It does, though have a less stable arc or feed at lower amp settings like I might use on 14ga with less than perfect fit up. On tight fillets of 14ga, and on thicker material, it performs well. The Betamig, I got in a trade for a couple of guns, and is the best of both worlds, and will replace one of the other two, but I haven't decided which.Last edited by geezerbill; 01-12-2016 at 08:58 AM.
Reply:Thanks again guys. I've seen very few bad comments about Hobart. I've had my Lincoln 225AC for decades, too. I can weld, but I don't call myself a welder. Most of my applications would be material less than 1/4, with the majority 1/8 or thinner. I did some 22ga with the old Lincoln yesterday, and was surprised I could do it, considering my skill level, and the machine. I used the 40 amp setting, and 3/32 6013. Today, I have more of that to do, and will try bumping up to 60 amps. (scrap practice first). I'd be happy with either the 180C or the H190. I'll be buying something in the next few weeks. Appreciate the comments...it all helps when spending big bucks.Jim

Reply:I've seen enough. I wasn't even considering Longevity until one showed up in my local area, which has few used machines available. I won't be buying a Longevity.Jim
