Reply:Call ATL Welding Supply.  If you have the D-85 mixer that takes 23-A-90 tips, they have some.  Here's a size 5, for example.  Don't know what size you need.  Probably a #8 or #9.  Hope you have a big Acetylene tank (or two manifolded), like a 350 Cu. ft. tank.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Harr...p2054897.l4275"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Thanks Oldendum,  I have the D-85 brass connector, and a #3 tip, went to that site but it is not much help.  I think that i need a #5 or #6 tip that work with theharris torch. sam.
Reply:Thanks Oldendum, that site looks better , i was hopeing to find a set of tips, didn't know that what size to get, and will try to find a #8 or #9 i guess.not a large weld but thick steel. sam.
Reply:I was working from an old chart I got from some welding supply company.  Don't take my word for it, it's just a random chart I have.  Harris should have a tip size chart for their stuff. Tip size numbers vary somewhat between brands.  If you need a set, look for used or new/old stuff on eBay.  Tips aren't cheap anymore, at least not genuine USA-made ones. What size acetylene tank do you have?  You shouldn't run a big tip from a dinky tank.  Not safe!Edit:  these folks seem to have compatible tips, but no mention of the actual orifice size or thickness of the metal to be welded.http://americantorchtip.com/part-list?id=23A90Last edited by Oldendum; 09-14-2014 at 04:29 PM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Hi Oldendum,  I can get larger tanks, if i get a bigger tip, i may be better off renting a generator welder to use stick, still looking at how i can get the repair done..I do have a excellent welder in town, but the loader is over 3 hours away in the mountains. sam.
Reply:You need stick or wire for that job. 5-32 7018 is what I would use. Oxy-fuel on that job would be like painting a barn with a 1 inch paintbrush.
Reply:You'll spend more on acetylene than the rental+time getting it cost you for sure. You'd also need big bottles, the little tanks that come in the kit from lowes can only small tips safely. If you use too much gas too fast, you'll pull acetone out of the bottle into your reg/hoses etc, which creates a very dangerous free gas condition in the cylinder. Google "acetylene withdrawal rate" for more info.
Reply:Ok, i think renting a gen/welder is best and a lot less trouble. Or i may look for a pro-welder to do the repair. I do understand about the fuel withdrawl rate, guessi will just do light work with the tip that i have. thanks for the advice, sam.
