Hello, I have the opportunity to buy a low hour unit for 800 with all tig accessories. I have enough power in my shop to run it. Would be used to replace my cheap inverter.  Really just want a good reliable unit for 1/8 tig all metals and 1/8 7018.Anyone with this unit? Also want to know if this is a decent price, note I'm in Canada.
Reply:I learned to tig on one. They are nice machines. I've never run 7018 with one, but the Syncro 200's and 250's run 7018 very well.$800 is on the lower end of what I often see them going for on CL. I think that's an excellent deal and you will be very happy with it. If in a few years you find you need a bigger machine, I bet you can get every penny back out of it when you go and sell it if you keep it nice..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:That's a big part of it, I can always get my money back. I've used quite a few syncrowave just never this small.
Reply:The 180's lack some of the options of larger machines like pulse, taht is standard on the 200's ( not that I've ever used it on mine)  and I think some of the older ones may not have a digital display. ( I'm pretty sure the one I learned on did). You are a bit limited on top end power, but it will weld 1/8" alum, and that's the most the average guy at home needs to do. Steel, 3/16"... Duty cycle suffers at max power and you are pushing the limit on the air cooled 17 series torch, but again, in home use, that's not a big issue..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Mostly will be stick so I should be able to do quite a bit mild steel wise, might be able to push it to do some thicker aluminum with preheat.  And yes digital gauge, also not welding super thin stuff so pulse isn't necessary.
Reply:Just be sure to fire it up and check a/c HF, and weld on d/c as well. Be aware that you have to pull the pedal cable completely off to weld in stick mode, otherwise you will have no amps to weld with. I bought mine 10 years ago in very nice shape for a thousand. It is really limited to 3/16" aluminum, thicker is possible, just takes preheat. It runs 7018 very well.
