Does anyone with a Bosch angle grinder know what the plastic bulb about a foot down in the power cord, from the body, is? It's chapping my a$$ as it keeps getting hooked on the edge of my table. Want to take it off or change the power cord if it's not absolutely needed. Anyone have thoughts?ThanksBert200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:Pict? If it's what I think it is, it's a security tag to prevent theft. I've had them on other newer corded tools. If so it can go. I don't think I have any with the tag on anymore, but I'll try and look tomorrow..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I've got a newer Makita that has the same lil doodad on the cord. If you could the twenty years of tape of over tape band aids I've put on my ancient old Bosch you'd get the same 1st impression I did when I saw the doodad. My thought was they are furnishing your first repair kit. A little tape and snap the gizmo over the patch job. I'm leaving mine on there so when I gouge the cord I can use it."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:i swapped out the cord on my bosch grinder to a longer one without the doodad. still works fine.
Reply:Jon is correct, it is a ferrite core noise suppressor. It keeps the noise of the tool's electric motor from being reflected back onto the supply grid. It will have no effect on how the tool performs otherwise.

Reply:Security tag.Came on the last few Makita grinders I bought.Took a pair of vice grips and "removed it".Kinda like that tag on the pillows you buy. "Do not remove this tag." Reply:I think you guys are right about it being a security device. While I have heard of contractors installing special ferrite rings on their cords, I have never seen a new tool come with one. The ones I have seen were installed as close to the tool as possible to prevent hanging it up as the OP stated his was. I am used to seeing the small magnetic strips as security devices, but I realize there are more than one type of them. Please forgive my hasty comment.
Reply:Sorry for the delayed "Thanks", been busy. I'll buy the security tag explanation. I bought them as the two pack deal as well, but both had the tags. I'll go with Sundown on the Vise Grip technique. Don't want to cut the cord using a French wrench. Almost done dinner and will go at them when I get back to the shop. Thanks again to all!Bert200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:yes, on security tag. Just buy another grinder to cut it off ! I removed mine with hammer and wood chisel. Split it and separated with two channel locks.
Reply:They are also used for inventory purposes by the manufacturer. They do not go every one. |
