symbol question

Hello everyone.can someone please help me with this welding symbol on drawing.I don't understand the 27-3 part...it can't be length and pitch nor leg and throat! I'd really appreciate the help.

Reply:Size and depth?First guess would be length and pitch as well. Maybe wrote in mm?Symbol looks weird to me. It's wrote on other side of symbol but the v groove doesn't coordinate with that.

Reply:thanks for the replies.I thought it was weird as well..this symbol is all over the drawing (bevel as well ) with another one being 15-5...looks like they are following their own kind of standard! (magotteaux-multinational company)hopefully someone can help.

Reply:First of all, for your weld to be on top of the plate, the symbols need to be under the arrow line.Yes, the flag means field welding.If they meant flat ground finish, the line should be under the G, not the 70.Intermittent weld numbers are supposed to be on the right of the symbol.Is it possible that your plate is around 27mm thick? If so, its 27mm thick of weld, i dont know about number 3, yes it could be a number of welds.437 could be the lenght of the weld?

Reply:The weld symbols and detail are not being presented correctly. But I'll take a shot at it. The joint is a 60 degree double groove. The G above the 60 should be a number that gives reference to the root gap. It should not be a letter indicating that's is a a groove weld. The 27-3 would mean the depth of the groove (top of the plate to the top of the land) the 3 should be in brackets and indicate the required depth of weld penetration. In this case, it is not a requirement for a fully penetrated weld. As the drawing is right now, the information being on top of the reference line with the arrow pointing down tells me the weld detail should all take place on the other side of the plate. The flag does indicate it's a field weld. Reply:437 is the width of sections (overall weld length) the G is the finish (grinding).the weld has to be from the arrow side!I will get to meet a representative soon and ask him about it.thanks for all your help.

But I'll take a stab at it..Field weld, 27mm welds in 3 places, 60° V ground flat and the weldments are 437mm apart, and use low hydrogen rod.The writing states: weld on the perimeter ringwelding the peripheral areas..for whatever that's worth.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
