... on my new shop!!!! Been waiting a long time for this. Attached ImagesGraysOrnamentalIron.com
Reply:I can't tell from the pictures, but if code allows it, stub your electrical service entrance in under the slab so you don't have to penetrate an exterior wall. One less place to leak.
Reply:Thats awesome man, I am in the middle of mine as well. you going to put alot of concrete down? How big is that thing?

Reply:Best of luck with your project. I envy you guys that jump right in there and build these nice shops. I never had the balls to outlay that kind of dough. My checkbook never had that kind of money in it, and I couldn't bring myself to borrow that much.I'm sure you'll enjoy it!Rich

Reply:Congratulations sir! I am jealous, of course!
Reply:Awesome and yes...I am also very envious, but also happy for you. Congrats man.
Reply:Nice start to great sized shop !! Curious how far from house and plans for electrical ??+1 recommend planning ahead with conduit(s) down in ground and coming up in wall where you plan your subpanel. Main electrical in 2" end-to-end conduit to house and extra smaller conduits for CAT 5e internet/phone/security and RG6 cable TV !! Just your natural gas run from house in trench must come up outside shop and enter above grade.Good luck with rest of build.
Reply:About 50' from my patio to the walk-in door on the shop. Shop will have it's own 200 amp electrical service coming off a pole 100' from the front, left corner. Wireless internet and cell phone, so don't need those. Security sensors are within range for my system so all I have to do is add entry and motion sensors. If/when I have gas run to the shop, I'll have the cable run for TV. I have the RapidAir Maxline 3/4" kit to plumb my air compressor lines. LED lighting already ordered. Just need to get it enclosed so I can start moving equipment in there! Thanks for all the suggestions guys.GraysOrnamentalIron.com

Reply:I got the lights through a local electrical warehouse that a friend of mine works at. The brand is MAXLITE. They are just basic 2 bulb, 4' LED tubes but there will be about 18 of them in the shop. And to all the guys wishing they could build a shop, I've been there. I just turned 55 a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting a long time to get a shop. I worked out of my garage also, having to pull tools out and put them away when through to make room for the wife's car. I'm very excited to get to do this, but also a little impatient. Construction started 2 weeks late and nothing was done on it today even though the weather was perfect. I guess because they poured concrete yesterday and were waiting for it to cure.I'll post more pictures as progress is made.GraysOrnamentalIron.com
Reply:Great looking for more photos and maybe they will get back on the building pretty quick.

Reply:Getting a little more organized. Got the big table in. First welding job was putting some casters on the table so I could move it around if needed. Even with the casters, it's still a hand full. The table is 5'x10' and the frame is made from 10" I-beams. Attached ImagesGraysOrnamentalIron.com

Reply:That's awesome I just got quoted $29K for a 20x40x10 metal building barebone, no concrete or electrical service. I was always under the impression they lay the slab first and then the walls. One day I will have a shop like this one. Thanks for posting!!!

Reply:Originally Posted by Teggy1I've seen it both ways. One argument/reason is it keeps conduit/plumbing tucked between the ribs, for slightly less wall protrusion. Others cite dirt/dust accumulation as reasons to go with vertical installation. I'm sure there are other reasons, but it seems to be preference.
