Any other heavy users of Tremclad spray cans out there experiencing the chronic problems I'm having with their new cans? I use mostly clear and have had dozens of cans fail. They will only spray when held upside down or the paint comes out in spits. I got fed up and depressurized a dozen cans and in 10 of them the uptake straw had detached from the top. The latest has been cans of blue I've returned twice because the paint dribbles out. Of course I'm painting something on a dead line! I've contacted Tremclad's help desk and am awaiting their response, however I doubt it will be anything more than form letter drivel like last time. Anyone else having problems?200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Not Tremclad but I had a real big problem with a whole case of Rustoleum here awhile back. Every tip would split and spray paint back in your hand after a few presses. You could see a visible seam in the plastic tip where it was almost designed to fail. Took it back and the local store went through several cases before they could come up with some good ones that didn't have that molding seam. Been okay since then. Just so happened that I bought a case and wasn't about to put up that kind of crap. Just imagine how many folks bought a single and cuffed it off. Lots of bucks there world wide.Obvious these big outfits are shopping around for the cheapest providers for their products. There's generally a reason why the low bidder is the lowest bidder. The latest catch phrase in the corporate world is "LCP" for Lowest Cost Provider. That Accounting speak for "cheapest chit we can push off on the consumer"."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:If you do lots of painting, consider a cheap spray gun. (Easier to throw 'em away than rebuild a premium gun when they wear out.)Buying paint in spray cans is like buying propane in disposable cylinders. It's great for limited consumption....
Reply:Thanks for the replies so far! Sandy: I'll check the nozzles for the seam you mentioned. Tremclad is a Rustoleum company. I didn't get any leaks at the nozzle. The spray was just very spattery and slow, like there wasn't enough pressure in the can. I checked and the can pressure was fine. Even when they spray "properly", the new cans don't spray as fine as the old ones and the new formula sags and runs more. I've got old can's and can directly compare. When I go to Canadian Tire or H.D., I usually by up all their clear gloss. Takes for ever for their computerized ordering system to figure out the shelf is empty and order more. Then it's another month to get it in!Rick: I've used other brands and Trem. is .......was....... the best. Krylon's coverage sucks, the paint is thin and doesn't have as much pigment in it. It's no as tough either. I tend to stay clear of the store/in-house brand, however, I may be forced to get a bunch of different ones and do a shoot out. I'm only going to try and help Tremclad for so long. Maybe a letter from my wife is in their future. Maybe that will get their attention. I'll see what their response to my email is.snoeproe: I've never used the textured paint, but if they can phuk up one, why not mess with the rest! farmall: Well, it's the time and thinner it takes to clean the gun after every use. I usually coat the pieces as I get them built so I'm not doing huge batches all at once. Plus it would require cleaning the gun between each coat as well. It's just not efficient. With cans I can shoot one piece or a dozen and just put the can down and come back later for coats 2 and 3 without messing with dis/assembling guns and cleaning paint pots and lines and having to deal with used thinners. I don't think I can just wrap a paint gun in plastic and let it sit, uncleaned, for hours or a few days like you can with a paint roller. That's my thinking behind using cans. I think it's cheaper given there's not time involved in clean up. Now, running around, dealing with $hit cans suck and wastes time and gas, but this latest was a color that I was using for a special project and need to get done. With the clear, I usually have a dozen or two cans on hand so I just label them and return them when I'm back to the store anyway. Incidentally, the blue I was using failed for a fourth can. Sprayed for a bit and then pooped out, same as the other ones. Luckily, I got two coats on the piece and that's all I'll need. But 4 cans to do a half can's worth of painting is just stoooopid!I'll let you know what Tremclad  has to say this time!B200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
