Reply:Looks good.  The during pics that is.  The before looks like a nightmare...  I've never had one break right there.  First hoe boom repair I ever did, we had an old Bantam that the boom itself broke right up by the stick pivot pin.  About 6" back from the pin itself.  We were doing some bores, and I was helping dad on the bore we were working on.  Hoppy (one of our operators) comes walking down there from where he was digging the next pit up the road.  Description he give (it's hard to describe without the hand signals he used...lol) was instead of the bucket moving toward or away from him, the whole arm thingy moves in and out, hanging straight down...lol.  Sure enough, we go down there and the stick is hanging by the crowd cylinder.  Luckily the bucket hoses were long enough he didn't break them.  Dad told me to bring the welding rig down there, and he'd go get some plate to fishplate it and a new box of 7018, for me to start beveling and cleaning it up to weld it back together.   I figured he planned on welding it.  He got back, we got it tacked back together, and he ran a bead in it with 1/8" 7010.  Takes his hood off, and says "it's all yours... Fill it up."  I welded it out, welded the fishplates on it.  That was in about 1987.  It was still together when I sold it in 1994.My Case 125B cracked out around the pivot pin boss on the stick itself.  That was the one I learned to use a carbon arc on.  Cat 225 cracked the boom right around where the lift cylinders attach to the boom.-------------------------Chemetron AC/DC 300 HFSnap-On MM300L Lincoln SP140 Lincoln AC/DC 225g Lincoln SA200 Lincoln SA200 Miller Bobcat 225GVictor torchesH&M and Mathey beveling machinesMcElroy Plastic pipe fusion
