Hi guys, I had a question to ask regarding FCAW.On one occassion, I observed that a fellow senior welder dunking his FCAW welding gun into a can of white paint and he carried on his welding onto steel plates. As an apprentice, I did not ask and would be appropriate due the cultural differences.Thinking back, I am rather curious to know. I would appreciate someone who can shed some light.

Reply:I vote for nozzle dip.. I'd think if it was white paint it probably would have caught fire while he was welding. But I've seen crazier things before!Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!
Reply:Thanks for answering guys. I will try and investigate further. I was surprised to see it's white paint look a like instead of gel kind.
Reply:Some people use vegetable oil spray to keep spatter from sticking on the work.I suppose vegetable oil shortening might work as nozzle dip, thought i suspect it would burn and stink.
Reply:Could it have been white led?
Reply:In the UK we have a white spray that you spray up the nozzle, its ceramic based and designed to stop spatter inside the shroud. perhaps this was similar what you saw except in a pot??
