After drying mask the handle and jaws, then and spray with self etching primer ( Napa Auto parts has good stuff in a can looks like army green puke but weorks well ). You will need two or three coats of Primer. Then go get real Automotive paint, I used a two coat process, first color coat ( 2 coats ), then a clear with hardner ( two coats ). Handles and slides I used Napa rust converter as I don't like paint on this surfaces.
Reply:Messed up and posted this as I was trying to edit.First disassemble the vise, then strip. Some guys get real picky and fill in all the scars and holes. I didn't anyhow here is picks of the one I just did:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=121511
