So I've been trying to come up with some new ideas and stumbled across some steam punk furniture the other day... I decided to try my hand at making a simple lamp.... I guess it went pretty well, sold it off my facebook page in about 4 hours. Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram
Reply:Pretty neat. What kind of bulb did you use?
Reply:Looks goodReal welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!
Reply:That's neat. For a second I thought the valve on top was used as a switch but then I saw the slider. Very cool project. Mind if I ask how much you were able to sell it for?Craftsman 90 amp Arc welder

Reply:I wouldn't call this steampunk.I think that you sould add more crap to it to really make it steampunk.  There needs to be a PSI gauge, some sort of gear train and a exhaust tube.Lincoln mig-Pak 180, Leather gloves, vice grips, a couple screw drivers, needle nose pliers, a file, dog, cat and a bird

Reply:You should be ashamed selling something like that for MONEY!LOL!Honestly, Great Job! I wish I had the Artistic talent to create something that simple with so little materials! Then actually have someone BUY it!
Reply:Thanks, guys. I made it with the intent to sell....wait, can't I be arrested for that? anyway, I've been trying to come up with new content for my art page (facebook.com/swiftmetalart  swiftmetalart.webs.com ) so I was happy with how it came out. And as far as classifying it as steampunk or not, ha.... I dunno. I'm not really into the whole thing myself. And I didn't want to go too crazy on this one... I sold it for 100 bucks. spent about 30 making it. Maybe a little low, but I just wanted to make some quick cash and boost views on my page.   I plan to make a few more and keep at least one for myself, though. lolMillermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram
Reply:and yeah, they're "vintage" bulbs... can be found at Lowe's for like 6.50Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram
Reply:Awesome. Well it looks good. I take it it took a couple hours to make?Craftsman 90 amp Arc welder
Reply:really just took a couple of hours to figure out what I wanted to do. The base was already cut, sitting in a pile of leftover parts from a previous job, and the only thing I had to cut was the pipe. two welds, some JB weld on the threads, and some clear rustoleum...and then wiring took a little while. yeah, maybe 2 hours total build time. then a few hours of running around to stores and figuring out what I was doing. ha.Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram

Reply:I like it, pretty cool. Also dig the idea of the valve as a switch and pressure gauge. Guess I might be just a bit steampunk, just dig the art. Bubba.....

Reply:A friend of mine went to Colorado a few years back and kept sending me pictures of ridiculous "sculptures" which were basically just a few pieces of junk metal welded together in "abstract" ways...literally...like crap out of the scrap bin at a welding shop, odd cut pieces...stuck together...very poorly I might add, craptastic pinhole filled welds... and they were selling for 700 and 800 dollars....crazy.  My mental note I took that day was to move to Colorado. lol.  Here in Nashville there's a lot of "Art people" but not a lot of serious buyers. Everyone wants things to cost like 20 dollars. so... I'm pretty happy with the fact I can go to Lowes, buy a few things, and turn it into a Benjamin in a few hours.   I do a lot of scrapping around here, too...I've got a few things in the truck right now that will be incorporated into the next lamp.... It'll be more "steampunk" haha.Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram

Reply:I took a cheap bottle lamp kit from wal-mart, used the rubber thing they give you to go into the bottle, used it on this. it was a very happy accident that it all worked out. I'm working out some ideas on how to make the next one. thinking multiple bulbs, and some sort of dimmer switch connected to a similar spigot to control the lights....Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on InstagramI have made a few over the last year, they are fun to make and make the long Minnesota winters go by a little easier!   Here are a few of my favorites.
Reply:dude, very nice! I love the 90s as bases. what's the shade on the third one down? looks pretty damn cool.Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram
Reply:I took apart a chimney top from a furnace vent and used that as a shade.  It casts a pretty cool shadow in a  dark room.
Reply:These are some a friend of mine made for his little "cabin in the woods".The one in the upper left that's on the wall has an old ceramic spittoon (like use to be found next to a Dentist's chair) used for the shade.
Reply:Here's a couple of other things he's built to give the place a steam punk vibe. The first ones a "coat hook" for on the wall and the second one can function as sort of a "coat tree".

Everyones got there own opinion.Ive bought amplifier vacuum tubes from this site. There reasonable in price imo.https://www.tubedepot.com/t/other-st...ue-light-bulbs

Reply:I've always thought these antique mercury arc rectifiers were pretty cool looking things.  http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...iers&FORM=IGRE
