I started tig welding with my 300 ST using lift arc and a valved tig torch. it was an old air products torch that had two separate out put nipples, I guess is what you would call it, with one for gas and one for a power lead. I just connect to gas and clip stinger to the end of the power wire. it worked but wasted a lot of gas so I decided i would find the pedal for a "reasonable price" somewhere and buy it. unfortunately reasonable seemed to be about $200 to the rest of the world and im way too cheap for that so I figured I will just get the connector and wires and make my own. After weeks of trying to find a 14 pin Amphenol connector for a realistic price I gave up and decided that I would switch the connect on the machine to a more readily available connector and I did but we will cover that in another post. once I had my own connector on the machine I was set to go and started collecting parts. I got a momentary switch and wired it to the machine and taped it to the torch. "Oh yeah baby, now were cooking" I thought to myself and I could now use the tig function on the machine as well as the gas solenoid, yay me. this is where I stayed for about a year because it worked and I didn't have time to look and learn about the pedal I wanted to "turn and burn" but after a while I decided it was time to stop reaching behind me to adjust the current and I needed to utilize the option of a pedal and I stumbled upon this gem in a pawn shop a couple of days ago and said lets do this.first I had to gut it and remove the 100K potentiometer so I could use the 5K I bought over a year ago for this project. Changing and wiring the pot would be the easy part the hard part was locating a "normally closed" momentary switch. tried radioshack and no love, then I thought what about the door switch for a car door? Napa has hundreds of these so I went to my local Napa and spent 20 minutes looking at door switches and picked one that was the best option. keep in mind I have ADD and am probably the most impatient person you will ever meet and I wanted the pedal NOW not in a week so ordering the right part was not an option. this is apparently a horrible disposition to have as I quickly realized that the switch I was certain would work was about an inch too long to fit. Way to go IDIOT. so off to lowes to get some wire and while I was there getting disappointed by their lack of 18/5 stranded wire I figure screw it ill use an extension cord and it will just be overkill. so I was set however let me swing by the electrical connectors and see if they have a switch. Low and behold I purchased the last normally closed momentary switch they had and it was perfect, so suck it Radio Shack!POWCON 300STLINCOLN SA-200HOBART CHAMPION 16MILLER CRICKET XLL-TEC 225MILLER SYNCROWAVE 350
Reply:Sorry about not going into enough detail or going into too much detail, hell I don't know. its my first time ever posting on a forum about a project I did, completed the pedal in a day it easy only about a 2 hour project once you have all your parts. I will be happy to answer any questions.shes an old welder but it works like new only better because it only cost me about 47 dollars from a scrap yard.POWCON 300STLINCOLN SA-200HOBART CHAMPION 16MILLER CRICKET XLL-TEC 225MILLER SYNCROWAVE 350
