I want to see some pictures of trucks with gin poles.
Reply:About all the oil well guys got em down here Google it you'll find tons of pics... Good luckLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:I have 2 trucks with them. One is just a roustabout truck with a Tulsa PTO driven winch, and the other is a welding truck with a 9000# electric winch. They both have 10' poles that are made from 2 7/8" tubing with 2 3/8" tubing inside for strength. I will try to take a pic of one of them for you..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Here's my rig you can look at. I don't know how weldors that do a lot of portable work can get by with out one. Attached Images
Reply:Often thought about this. The only ones I've seen on small trucks around here are guys that collect scrap.  Never seen one on a welding rig.Might be the area.  I'm in Central OK, in the oil patch.  There's tons of gin pole trucks for hire by the hour.Either that, or nobody wants to "ruin" the beautiful lines of their pipeline rig Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I looked at a lot of Gin Pole rigs before I built my first one over twenty years ago. I copied the best parts of several different ones. Mine stands itself up and puts itself back. It is adjustable in angle in under a minute. It adjusts from 10' poles to 19' poles in a few minutes. If you know what your doing you can load things into the truck bed. I loaded that 32' beam by myself and put it in my bone pile by myself. The control cable is on an extension cord spring driven roll up.I really don't know how weldors can get by with out one.
Reply:Nice rig Bob!A search should turn up some pics of a truck with a fold-away boom, maybe that design would give Pipeliner some ideas.I've never seen a load-line blocked as seen in Samm's picture... interesting theory. Looks like a guy could get up there and play a little violin! Good Luck

Reply:My buddy has one in his back yardhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=27557We still havnt figured out how it folds down safely.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Thats a good setup there Bob. I have entertained the idea of putting live poles on mine but I guess I am too lazy. We have a 340" wheelbase Paystar 5000 I drive at work, and it has 3 winches. You can rig it up with the live poles on one, and run 1 or 2 load lines off the other 2. Comes in handy when putting derrick sections togather..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply:I would agree with that, Bob! That is good work. This is just a random picture I found on the web a long time back, just another arrangement, good, bad, or indifferent.City of L.A. Reply:Hey there Bob. I'm lookin into gin pole designs to self load my truck bed using a compound block system. For some reason this picture isn't showing up, but I'm real interested in your design and any other info. or suggestions you would have. Thanks in advance.Last edited by ledbedder; 11-22-2014 at 03:08 PM.Reason: removed email link
Reply:Do a search on here for A frames and gin poles. I have put a lot of close ups of just about every part of it on here before. It is a very slick system and the easiest to use of any that I have seen.
Reply:My thread on winch trucks has a lot of info and links to other good threads in it. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ead&highlight=Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:If your going to take the time to build on then make it easy to use and adjust. It will make it so much more versatile to use. With only a minute to adjust from nearly verticle to laying almost completely down and no strain to do it, then you will use it more often.
