I sent off the lincoln idealarc 300 tig welder I had a couple weeks ago to be gone through and repaired. The transformers were fine in the machine, I got a call last week from the repair guy saying it had been "dropped" and the small transformer in the machine had pushed over and hit the big transformer basically junking my whole machine. He offered to have it hauled off for free which pissed me off more, making me think it may have been his fault. I chose to have him send it back to Welsco by freight which is how I sent it to him. Today I went to inspect it and it looks like someone picked it up with a chain and forklift and used it as a wrecking ball! The only good thing is that the guy at Welsco said he was gonna help make this right, Im waiting on a call from them now. I just expected better care and service of my machine especially from a "professional" welder repair man. Sorry for the long rant but it was a "good" machine, probably only needing a couple diodes and the boards rebuilt which I could have had done for around $100!!! but now I get to look for another. Reply:Sorry to hear about that man. It sucks when stuff like that happens and it's not your fault. Hopefully they will get you taken care of.Few thoughts. I have an Inland marine policy ryder on my General liability insurance. It covers up to $15K in tools of mine anywhere against theft/fire/damage. Over $XXX I have to itemize the tools for them. I want to say with my policy its $2K but won't bet on it right now. Also my $75K renters policy covers my "hobby" tools, which technically means my tig, but I might have a bit of trouble convincing an agent my $2K tig isn't for "business" use.A repair shop SHOULD have insurance to cover damages to customer items in their posession. Same with a trucking company and freight. This might get into a he did it/ they did it fight if the repair place claims shipping damages occured and didn't note that to start.Good luck. Hopefully if they go thru insuance to get you taken care of, you will end up with a new machine. Might even be a chance for you to upgrade if you've been thinking about it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I got a call back and the head manager for this welsco said he was gonna make it right and asked what I'd like to happen. I told him I'd like the machine replaced and he said he could find me another machine just like it but in good working condition. Im gonna give him about a week to find a replacement or give a price I'd take for the machine to be replaced. My vintage equipment 1957 Lincoln sa 2001980's Lincoln 225 AC1952 F-2 ford truck1957 F-250 ford truck
Reply:Sounds like he's trying to rectify the problem... That's a plus in his column... IF he follows thru on this. Doesn't sound like they have much choice in the matter since it was in their hands when it got damaged. At least if they replace the machine you won't be fighting the court system for the damages.....which can be worse than the loss of the machine & a bigger hassel.Good Luck

Reply:I'm so sorry to hear that, my father has a similar exprience, he wanted to repair the lincoln idealarc 300 tig welder although it was still able to use, but after a week, the repair man called my father:"Your welder can't be repaired, you need to buy a new one." My father was so angry....lincoln welders
Reply:I talked to the guy today and he said hes looking at a replacement machine but it has all the accessories such as leads and foot control so he said he wants to find one bare for a smaller price. When I asked him how much it was he said $600!!  I couldnt find one for less than $800 and at least 500 miles away. He said he'd call me in a week and get me a replacement so Im gonna hold him to it but it seems kinda stupid they arent willing to just buy that machine and replace mine for that small a price anyway. They could keep the crap and just give me the machine. My vintage equipment 1957 Lincoln sa 2001980's Lincoln 225 AC1952 F-2 ford truck1957 F-250 ford truck
Reply:I called and asked more about the $600 300/300 tig machine and offered to throw $100 and he's gonna pick it up and I go get it next friday! He said it has the digital read outs on the front of the machine. It apparently comes with about 75ft of leads, tig torch with finger control, all hoses and regulator. So I feel pretty good about it.My vintage equipment 1957 Lincoln sa 2001980's Lincoln 225 AC1952 F-2 ford truck1957 F-250 ford truck

Reply:Went to the Welsco this morning and the machine they got in wasnt a 300 idealarc it was a Lincoln squarewave 255!! It came with a weldcraft torch and about 100 ft of ground lead and stick lead. It welds like a dream and the tig torch has a lincoln amptrol hand control on it. I'll get some pics tomorrow morning after I clean the machine up a little, its covered in dust and oil. I still cant believe I got a squarewave machine for $100, im in shock  Welsco really pulled through for me on the replacement deal and they now have a life long customer My vintage equipment 1957 Lincoln sa 2001980's Lincoln 225 AC1952 F-2 ford truck1957 F-250 ford truck

Reply:So I guess you waltzed into what you wanted...good deal...Love it when disaster turns into roses...In case it didn't come with a manual you might want to save this link or print a copy for yourself...http://content.lincolnelectric.com/p...r/im/Im520.pdf

Reply:Well wouldn't you know.  I just went and looked at one just like your smashed unit tonight and thought about you.Burned a couple 6011 rods on some rusty old scrap with it to check out the controls.  Didn't try the TIG as the gas wasn't hooked up and it didn't have any coolant in it.  Owner assured me the TIG portion works and would set it up for a test run if I wanted him to.  Decided to pass right now even though he's only asking $400.Congrats on the solution to your misfortune.  Sometimes those clouds do have a silver lining.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
