Picked up a Milwaukee cold cut chop saw. I have a 4 x 6 Jet horizontal band saw and an abrasive chop saw with a rescue blade on it. I cant believe how this thing chews up the steel.Best thing I have ever cut steel with, looking forward to many projects to come Attached ImagesMillermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in. Reply:I have the same one. I would make a new. Plexiglass chip deflector for it, but slightly thicker. If the need ever comes, you can use abrasive disks with a 1" Arbor and cut with them although much slower, but much straighter! Reply:i have one just like it they are the s*** ! worth every penny of the $475.00 i paid for it .invest in a C H Hanson pivoting square to lay out your angles off of the vise you can cut any angle very accurately . the angle graduations are not that good on this saw "only drawback" but it is one HEAVY DUTY son of gun .good luck Chris...
Reply:I have the dewalt verison and it has a piss poor  base and guide. Cant cut a true 45 or 90 honestly. Since there is no straight surface on the dewalt base that is trued to the blade, you cant set the guide with any accuracy. It looks like at least your milwaukee can be squared from the side of the base. Good sawing action terrible accuracy for the dewalt.Local 597
Reply:Here's something to consider for your Milwaukee saw. We love the saw, but moving it around and finding a place to set it up was a pain. Also, when cutting angles the stock position has to change with the orientation of the saw, making it necessary to either turn the saw so the stock remains on the bench or find something to support the stock at some angle to where the saw is located.  We bought a Delta Miter Saw / Planer stand and mounted the Milwaukee saw to it with a 12" lazy Susan bearing under the saw, so the stock can remain on the roller supports and the saw can be rotated to the angle needed. It also collapses into a hand truck shape so it stores and moves easily. The stand is a bit light for heavy metal working, but for cutting rods, strips, angle and pipe up to about 3" it has held up great for us.Charley Attached ImagesMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:Love mine, have had the best luck out of the Milwaukee blade. Tried a freud blade and wasnt impressed. It didnt last long but they replaced it free so I have a new Freud blade to use. It will be a back up blade when getting my Milwaukee blade resharpened. These saws are great and will give you a lot of cutts if you use it properly. Let the saw do the work.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.

Reply:I am in the process of building a table for the saw. I looked at some models that were at the hardware store but none looked like they would hold up. I have a tendency to over build stuff, more of a go ahead and try to break it mentality. Here is a pic of my welding table, you could put a car on it.I have cut the framing for the new saw table and found that once I set the angle with my square it stays true and cuts accurately. I am very impressed with the saw. Attached ImagesMillermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in. Reply:I am currently using the Milwaukee blade that came on the saw. I had to stick it back on to finish a job when the Freud blade quit cutting. The Milwaukee blade is missing 2 teeth and has one chipped tooth. It still cuts very well. I will stick the new Freud blade, that they sent me since the first one lasted about 200 cuts, and get the Milwaukee blade repaired and resharpened.Making as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.

Reply:We killed the 14" Milwaukee blade that came with our saw and it was late on a Saturday with a bunch of work remaining. I ran to the nearest Northern store for a replacement and found that although they sold the Milwaukee saws they didn't carry the replacement blade (stupid management). They did, however, carry their own brand for $100. I reluctantly bought one and brought it back to finish the job. That was about 500 cuts ago and it's still cutting. It's been at least as good as the Milwaukee blade, maybe a little bit better.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.

Reply:is there a difference between that saw and just a chop saw with abrasive disk? i need something like this but on a budget. is it lower RPM since theres no cooling fluid?
Reply:When do you guys prefer your chop saw vs the bandsaw or another cutting device? I try not to use mine as much because it's loud and makes a mess.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:the band saw is great, its just so darn slow. I did 16 45 degree angle cuts and 16 square cuts thru 1.5 inch 3/16 wall square tube in a little over 20 minutes. I think the band saw would have taken well over an hour. as for the noise....I have radio in my ear muffs and it keeps people out of my shop when i am playing Millermatic® 252 w/ Spoolmatic® 30AHypertherm Powermax65Jet 5" x 6" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw DEWALT 14in. Reply:That is a dry cut saw, a true cold saw is awesome.Tim Beeker.
Reply:I've worn my base down to the point it was no good at all. I got in all the new parts for the entire base. some parts not shown. This is my next equipment purchase. 15" cold saw. http://www.maxisaw.com/product.php#MX370_descLast edited by Jimmy_pop; 06-05-2012 at 09:47 PM.
Reply:how did you wear the base down?
Reply:Just heavy daily use. Wore enough material away that the base and backstop were really sloppy. Cutting much better now.
Reply:I didn't replace any parts related to the vise. They don't really have anything to do with the deflection of the backstop when clamping material. I did flip the steel plate that is directly under the vise that runs the length of the base. The worn side is now facing downward and that helped alot too.
Reply:well maybe I jumped the gun but I did purchase a evolution raptor 380mm metal cutting saw from laws. I must say it cuts great.  I would change a couple of things on the fence and I probably should have looked closer at the others, but its the best thing I have had so far.
