Heres a bandsaw blade welder I picked up for $35. Came with a bunch of spools of blades. Its 220V, I need to build a sheet metal cover for it to cover all the wires. I need to wire up the light too. Now that I can fix blades my saw will never break a blade again.  Attached Images
Reply:That's cool, I've been TIGing mine back together, this looks a bit easier lolWelding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:DoALL?Tim Beeker.
Reply:Yep its a DoAll, I tried to tig weld one that broke a few weeks ago and messed it up. I figured for $35 I couldnt go wrong with this machine. This is nice because you can weld it and aneal it all in one place. It also came with 2 shears for cutting the blade.
Reply:That's almost exactly like the one in my Doall saw. What size blades are you going to weld? I know that 1/2" pushes mine to the point where I have trouble getting a good weld. It will not even start to weld a 3/4" blade for my horizontal saw.   I've tig, mig, and brazed blades for my horizontal. A while back I got a spool of stock that would not stay welded no matter what I did. I had to braze it for it to hold for any length of time.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:This is supposed to weld up to 1/2in. It welds 1/2in great but wont get it red when anealing. It heats it up and seems to be good and strong so it must be hot enough. I tried silver brazing one a few weeks ago and it didnt want to braze together.
Reply:I welded up a 1/2in blade tonight. I had to turn it down because it will burn a blade in half. Seems to be a good strong weld
Reply:How does it work? Does it just butt the blade together and spot weld it?Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:Sounds like you've got a good one there. I think mine is a little restricted by my power source. I need to get around to wiring a heavier duty plug for it. I have blown the breaker a few times while welding blades.  One thing from some of your comments I wonder if you realize that the wider spaced in the outer part of the jaws is for annealing. You weld with the blade against the fence and then move the blade out to do the annealing. This is different from the welder we had at my former employers. On it there was a position on the dial that moved the jaws farther apart for the annealing cycle.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Yep I knew about the outer part of the jaw for annealing. I only knew because the guy I got it from showed me how to do it. Its about 1/4" wide on the welding part and about 1/2" wide where you anneal.
Reply:Heres a vid of it in action

Reply:lol I've only broken 1 blade in several years I think. That thing, as cool as it is, would never get used around here. I'd clean it up and sell it.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:Looks like you could save up money buying blades with that welder! Good find you got.  What year do you think that was manufactured?
Reply:Coming across a functioning welding machine is like a 1 in a million bit of luck – and if you know how to operate it and grind – you’ve got it made!
Reply:I bought one from Harbor fright and it works fairly well. It cost me about 165.00 but Its not near the welder that one is.  Ive worked in quite a few places where the welder was mounted on the band saw. They were DoAll.  Mac
Reply:In the manual there is some pages in the back that are revisions on how to do adjustments. They are stamped Jan 21 1970. My guess is maybe it was built in the mid to late 60s.The guy I got it from said it came out of a whirlpool factory near me. I think they made washing machines and other appliances. They closed up shop and moved I think around 1975 so this guys dad scooped this up and started his own machine shop with his son. His son retired and had this at his house and thats how I bought it. Hes selling his house and looking for a small house with a small yard.My dad used to work in a plastic factory and he said they had a huge bandsaw with one of these welder built in. I think it went to the scrap yard when they closed up.Last edited by Michaeljp86; 06-19-2012 at 04:40 PM.
