Hello, I'm new to the group. Not a professional welder, just a do it myselfer type. Anyway I have a DC-250-AS Wisconsin VF4-D gas powered welder I'm putting back together. It was given to me for free and I figured I'd put it back in good operating condition. Like many old welders it has been abused a bit. I rebuilt the engine, straightened the sheet metal and I'm mounting it to a Harbor Freight trailer. So I don't have a great deal of money in it. Running it will be good enough for the small jobs I do occasionally. My question is about the rheostat on the welder, does anyone know what the value of the is and wattage?? Contacted Lincoln, and was told it was an obsolete part..... But was able to download a copy of the manual and parts list for it. part# is M5090-G Thanks John

Reply:call the lincoln parts department, give them the part number and ask them to fax or e-mail you the spec. sheet for the obsolete part. once you have that you should be able to get some thing close from an electronic supplier,( newark, digikey, allied ect.)
Reply:Thanks for the tips, I'll try them and see what I can find out...... Like I said this welder hasn't been taken very good care of in its past life.Looked like it has been dropped or rolled a few times... :-). I'm straighteningthe pieces the best I can, made some new pieces and replaced the front blowerhousing from another Wisconsin engine.... I do know from the Lincoln site and the welder's serial number that it was made in 1957.... John |
